We pulled up to a warm and cozy looking cottage. It was small and made of a mixture of white and yellow bricks, lit by vanilla scented candles and fairy lights.
"This place has the best Italian food around." Nate said as he parked the car and walked over to my side opening the door for me.
My stomach lurched and growled as I thought of the food.
"What a coincidence I love Italian food." I said looking at the quaint place. He helped me out of the car, shutting the door behind me.
"Me too." He said with a warm smile. He grabbed my hand and steered me towards the entrance. He again, opened the door for me.
"Have you ever been to Italy?" I asked curiously as we waited to be seated.
"Actually I've never been out of the country before." He said, then turned when the waiter came and showed us our seats which were in the back.
The lighting in the restraunt was all turned low with candles and lanterns scattered around various places. The whole place screamed cozy and romantic. The table we were seated at, was a round dark wood table, with a single red rose in a small, clear vase, placed in the center.
"What about you? Have you ever been out of the country or to Italy?" He asked me once we were seated. I flipped through my menu and nodded my head.
"My family and I have a summer ritual to travel to a new place each year, so I've been to a lot of places, but Italy isn't until next summer so I've actually not gone to Italy yet." I replied. I was having an internal battle on either getting Bolognese or Chicken Marsala.
"Really? Must be fun traveling."
I looked up from my menu to Nate, who was still flipping through his menu.
"Maybe I can bring you along next summer to Italy, I usually bring Ebony and Brit, but Brit has to visit her grandma next summer and Ebony hate traveling." I said and his eyes looked up and locked with mine. His eyes were slightly ajar and he had a look of disbelief written on his face.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I don't want to go alone anyways." I say with a nonchalant shrug. He looked like he was about to say something else, but was interrupted when the waiter came.
"May I take your order?" He asked with a slight Italian accent.
"I'll take the lasagna primavera." Nate ordered and he flicked his eyes towards me in question.
"Chicken Marsala please." I said and handed the waiter my menu. He thanked me and Nate and gave us glasses of water.
I grabbed my straw, ripped the tip, and blew threw it, causing the paper on the straw to fly and hit Nate between his eyebrows.
"Bullseye!" I said in victory. Nate laughed and did the same and it hit me on my cheek. I started ripping the straw paper and a few napkins wadding then up and flicking them at Nate. Nate was doing the same thing with his straw and napkins.
When the waiter came back with our orders, small wads of paper were littered all over the ground. I stifled my laughter when I saw a few caught in Nate's hair, which I'm pretty sure some were also stuck in mine. The waiter gave us a disturbed smile, setting our food down, and rushing away yelling something in Italian.
"I'm guessing he doesn't like us." I said while laughing, Nate joining me.

We were pulling up to my house and I wanted to just go back and have the date again. He parked his car, and got up to help me out. He helped me out and we walked up my driveway which was up an incline, until we finally made it to my front door.
"I had a great time." Nate said with a nervous laugh.
"Me too." I agreed awkwardly. He looked really nervous and was fiddling with his fingers.
"I-I was wondering if we could, you know, go out again, but like, not because I'm substituting b-but for real? Or if not, maybe as friends, you know if your not into that, you don't even have to go as friends, you could just not come, or maybe-" He was stuttering slightly so I just cut off his nonsense rambling.
"Sure." I said. He stopped and looked up at me from the spot on the ground he was looking at before.
"Really?" He asked, a smile growing on his face. I just nodded and then he looked nervous all over again. I was about to ask him what he was nervous about now, until I felt his warm lips on my cheek.
My eyes widened when he pulled back and his eyes were slightly wide too as though he didn't even think he was going to do it.
"Well, I-I gotta go, bye." He finally said and rushed away, keeping me in a shocked stance on my front porch.
His lips were really warm in contrast to the cold December night, and I could still feel the warmth linger on my cheek. I finally snapped out of it and went inside my house.
No one was home so I just threw my bag in the living room and climbed up my stairs to my room. I felt a wave of sleepiness overcome me when I walked through the threshold of my room. I guess Ice skating is really tiring.
I quickly dressed into my fuzzy penguin pajama pants and a big grey shirt. Once I was comfortable I grabbed my diary and flopped onto my bed, flipping to the next page in my book.
Dear Diary,
I just went on my fourth date. Even though it was supposed to be Carson I was going on the date with, it was actually Nate.
Yes, Nate. The guy I've been crushing on went on a date with me.
We went Ice skating and then we ate Italian food at the cutest little place. We almost kissed at the skating rink, and I kind of wished we did. The food was amazing, so I'm definitely going to go there another time.
When Nate dropped me off he asked for a second date, and he kissed me on the cheek! How much better could it get? I don't really know if you would consider us boyfriend/girlfriend persé but I guess we are technically dating? I don't know, I don't like thinking about that kind of stuff. So until next time,
Athena Erin May.
