"Oh... of course I remembered..." I laughed uneasily scratching the back of my head.
To be honest I forgot completely about babysitting.
He just gave me a charming smile with a raised eyebrow.
"Mhm... You're lying." He states bluntly with a smirk lingering on his lips, not looking at me, paying more attention on packing the gummy bears back into my closet.
"And you know this.... how?" I ask tilting my head slightly with a disbelieving look. He finally looks at me and smiles.
"Your nose flares slightly when you lie." He said nonchalantly, shaking his head slightly to get his hair out of his face.
I didn't know how to respond to that so I occupy myself by throwing away the empty popcorn bags and Ben and Jerry's.
"So we're going over to your house?" I question when we were done cleaning up a little in my room.
"Yeah, Ryan's gonna meet us in 20 minutes" Nate said his voice void of emotion.
"Oh... Okay..." Well that fun mood went downhill...
We quietly went to the car, not speaking. He started the car and I didn't really like the silence so I turned on the radio.
Nate didn't seem to like
the radio So he kept his left hand on the wheel and used his right hand to ruffle through his car grabbing a CD.
When I heard the music I almost jumped up and cheered. It was The Beatles.
I was silently cheering on the inside. Since none of my friends liked The Beatles, I usually listened to it alone.
Nate seemed to have seen how much I loved the music because he had a huge smile on his face now.
The next thing that happened made me want to laugh.
He burst out singing along.
"Baby you can drive my car,
Yes I'm gonna be a star,
Baby you can drive my car"
"And maybe I love you!!!" I sang along, both of our voices were terrible, cracking every now and then.
By the time the song was over we were laughing so hard I'm pretty sure the car next to us could hear us.
We arrives at Nate's house and I was really surprised at what I saw.
Not because it was a huge mansion, but because it looked so modest.
It was a small two story house that was beige and green grass with a small garden that looked like it was tended often.
I was surprised since I knew that his Dad was a very known restraunt chain owner and his mother was a famous lawyer so he should have been loaded.
"You thought our house was gonna be more spontaneous?" Nate voice brought me out of my thoughts. His voice wasn't offended but more teasing if anything.
"Er... Yea, sorta." I said sheepishly.
"Money has never made man happy, nor will it, there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has the more one wants." Nate said. "Benjamin Franklin. That's the quote my parents live by." His voice full of adoration, I could tell he took pride in his parents.
"They sound like amazing people." I say with a small smile.
He just responded with his usual bright smile. He shuffled his hand in his pocket grabbing out his keychain.
He unlocked the door, shoving it open and swung his arm out indicating for me to step in first.
When I walked in I was instantly wrapped in warmth, which was heavenly compared to the chilly November breeze outside.
"So make yourself comfy." Nate said from behind me, lightly pushing me forward.
"Oh yea sorry, it's really warm in here."
I walked into living room which was bigger than I thought it would be. It had shiny wooden floors, gray walls, surprisingly orange couches, and a small coffee table with bright blue flowers placed in it.
The colors popped.
"Oh yeah, my mom loves bright colors. She likes decorating all of the rooms." Nate says twirling one of the blue flowers between his fingers.
He twisted it once more than looked at me through his lashes. He raised his hand with the flower tucking it behind my ear, smiling at me. His fingertips were still lightly brushing the hair by my ear. The whole time his eyes never left mine.
I didn't even get a chance to react since the door bell rang.
I heard Nate curse under his breath and glare at the door. He removed his hand and answered the door.
"Hey! So what'd I miss?" Ryan asked passing by a scowling Nate not even giving him a second glance.
"Nothing the babies are gonna arrive soon though." Just as the words left my mouth the door bell rang.
Nate answered it again except this time with a smile. Lisa and Persie quickly flashed a smile, handed the babies over then speedily left.
Nate stood there dumbfounded with the two babies in his arms.
Until Landon started wailing and crying out.
This is gonna be a loooong night.
