It was an ordinary day between Summer and Autumn.
The sun was up, all high and mighty in the middle of the bluest canvass of the sky, surrounded only by scattered cottony clouds. A cool breeze softly blew, so she closed her eyes and felt it caress her warm cheeks. She felt the soft grass underneath her bare feet, her sleeveless yellow eyelet sundress gently danced between her legs, as she walked hand in hand with him. She felt him tug at her hand gently, as he teased her of walking too slowly.
"I was merely enjoying the view and the feel of the flowers beneath my fingers as we pass them," she said with a snort. He laughed weakly and walked slowly as he gazed back at her. She smiled at him sweetly, hopped to keep up with his steps, and wrapped herself around his left arm.
"I'm sorry for rushing you. I just don't want us to be late. And... well, I don't want you to have time to change your mind." He said with a smirk, then lightly poked her nose with his index finger.
"I'm here, aren't I? I've made my decision. I'm going with you. I've waited long enough for this day." It's true. There was really nowhere else to go but into his arms.
"I just want you to know that you don't have to. I've waited long enough for you, what's a few more years? I just don't want you to regret not being able to do everything you wanted to do in life, just because you decided to be with me." He sounded so forlorn, like he had been thinking about this for the longest time.
"I'm done. I've done enough and suffered long enough. All I want now is to have this, all this, with you. There's nothing else I could ever wish for." She looked around the little paradise around them. It was exactly the peace and beauty she needed. Here she would be free from all her pain, because finally, she would be with the man who loved her dearly.
He just shook his head and stared at her with sad eyes and weak smile. She smiled back but he didn't say anything anymore. They continued walking in silence.
She had to pause for a second and let go of his hand, so she could put her white strappy sandals on. The soft grass was beginning to tickle her feet and little stones were coming out of nowhere, making her whole legs tingly whenever she stepped on them.
She had just secured the last strap of her sandals when she noticed dark clouds suddenly rolled in. She looked up to the sky, squinting her eyes. It didn't look like it was going to rain yet, but she could already feel the lightning and thunder looming.
She reached for his hand, but he was already a few steps ahead of her. She tried calling his name but he couldn't hear her.
She jumped, when lightning struck right in front of her. It was blinding and she could swear she felt its heat on her chest. Thunder followed after a beat, so she started running. But the lightning followed, never really hitting her but with every strike, its heat went straight to her chest, searing her heart. She kept running, and calling for him, but she could not see him anymore. Another lightning struck, and she was sure it hit her this time, because everything went black. Then a deep, sweet voice so new, yet so familiar called her name softly, but she could not find her voice to answer back, nor her hand to reach for him.

"That was close, but we were able to revive her and she's stable now, Ma'am. All traces of the drugs she took are gone, and physically, she's all healed. Her reflexes and pulse are normal. It's really all up to her now, when she will wake up. Let her rest for now. Go home, and come back for visiting hours tomorrow. She's in good hands, her nurse will be monitoring her."
The nurse watched as his patient's family all kissed her goodnight then left one by one. Her father was the last one left in the room.
"Lumaban ka, anak. Andito pa kami. Mahal ka namin." He kissed his daughter's forehead then turned to the nurse.
"Iho, salamat sa pag-aalaga mo sa anak namin. Sa halos isang taon na pagbabalik balik namin dito, ikaw lang ang nurse na pinakikinggan nya at naging kaibigan nya. I know it's too much to ask, pero this time na naka-coma siya, I have hopes na kapag narinig nya ang boses mo, baka bumalik siya sa amin, sa atin. Salamat, iho."
He could only nod, as the lump in his throat was threatening to burst out of him through his tear ducts.
Once he was alone in the room with her, he checked her monitors and scribbled notes on her chart, making sure that he still did his job as her nurse. He adjusted her pillow and smoothened her blanket, then he pulled up a chair closer to her bed. He sat, and looked at her peacefully sleeping pale face. Then he gently touched her arm and traced one by one, the scars that lined her wrist.
They had talked about all this, from the very first day they met at the hospital. She had confided to him her tendencies whenever memories of a deceased loved one haunted her. He thought he'd already got through to her, as she had just celebrated her 30th day of sobriety.
He held her soft hand between his, and gently kissed the back of it before placing her palm flat on his cheek.
"Wake up... please wake up... come back to me..."
It was all he said, repeatedly, over and over while caressing her hand with his thumbs. He closed his eyes, and a lone tear fell on his cheek as he sent a silent prayer to the heavens to bring her back.
A moment passed, then he felt her fingers move against his cheek. He slowly opened his eyes and was met with hers. The sweetest smile and recognition slowly crept up her face, instantly giving her cheeks color.
"Hi..."
