"You have got to be kidding me."

She stopped at the doorway as soon as she saw the man sitting behind the desk of her supposedly new "therapist."

The young man looked up from his leather bound notebook and took off his black rimmed reading glasses.

"Uhm... may I help you?" He said, in a confused and slightly irritated tone.

"You're my new shrink?" The young woman asked, folding her arms across her chest.

"That depends. Who exactly are you looking for?" The young man returned the same attitude he got from the young woman.

She doesn't look like a troubled teenager. Hmmm... must be one of those quarter life crisis situations, he thought while studying her face. And then it hit him. It's her. She's late. She's supposed to be here an hour ago.

The young woman looked over the piece of paper she got from the receptionist earlier.

"This endorsement says Dr. Richard Faulkerson, Jr," she read aloud.

The young man snickered, then stood and walked to where she was standing.

"If he's the one you're looking for, then you're in the right office. Hello, I am Dr. Faulkerson, how may I help you?"

He stood right in front of her, and there, up close was when he truly saw the flawless rosy glow of her cheeks, her thick long lashes, her full all-red pouting lips, and the saddest but most beautiful set of light brown eyes he has ever seen.

She almost stepped back, the whole time thinking if the proximity of the doctor to her was legal or ethical. The first thing she thought at seeing him up close was that he smelled so good. And then a dimple deepened on his left cheek when he smiled, while his brown eyes stared into hers. She wanted to look away but she felt trapped in his gaze. When he broke eye contact and extended his right hand to shake hers, she realized she was holding her breath and finally let go.

When he felt that she was not going to shake his hand, he nonchalantly put it in his pocket, turned around and headed toward his dark navy blue recliner, right next to the matching couch in the middle of the room.

He grabbed a notepad from the side table, sat comfortably, and waited a few more seconds for the young woman to say anything or at least move from where she stood, but she stayed planted in place, while her eyes roamed around the entire room.

"You may sit anywhere you're comfortable. I believe you were scheduled for a maximum of 3 hours with me today, if indeed I'm the one you're looking for and if you plan on staying. You're an hour late, so that leaves us two hours."

Her eyes landed on his and didn't take them off while she slowly walked to the couch and sat there. He followed her every move, which he shouldn't have done, for it was obvious that she was getting uncomfortable. But he just couldn't take his eyes off of her sad but beautiful face. It's not just sadness though. There was anger? Fear? He swore to find out.

There's something seriously wrong with this woman, he thought, but not the issues enumerated in her file.

Why does my doctor have to be this young? What life learnings am I going to get from him? She thought to herself.

"I'm not that young, you know." Her eyes bulged in surprise that the doctor seemed to have read her mind, and he noticed because he continued, "sometimes, we talk too loud in our heads that we don't realize we're actually saying our thoughts out loud for everyone to hear."
