Hearts that Clash

I woke up in cold sweat. I looked around the room and saw the sun shining through the curtains. "What's happening to me?" I thought. I've always had nightmares but never this vivid and realistic. I got up and splashed cold water on my face. I looked into the mirror and saw my father's cold eyes staring into mine. He whispered, "Remember this day......" I balled my fists and smashed it into the glass. "I'll never forget it," I said through gritted teeth.

I walked out of the bathroom and changed into a pair of jeans and a red shirt. I also put on the leather jacket, which was a gift from my mother before she passed. I brushed my hair and walked out into the hallway, seeing it was alive and moving with students waking up and going to their morning classes. I felt a hand on my shoulder and felt a jolt go down my neck. I turned and saw it was Weiss. "Oh oops," she said, "Did I startle you?" I shook my head. "No not at all," I said, "Whats up?" Was she... blushing? "Oh well I wanted to ask if you, well... you know, wanted to come with me to the dance this Sunday." My face instantly turned red. "Oh...uh..well...sure." I stuttered, "I...I'd be glad to." She smiled and said, "Great!" She started to walk away when she turned around again. "Oh I forgot to mention something," she said. "Yeah? What's that?" I asked. "I want you to meet my boyfriend Neptune at the dance!" My heart dropped into my stomach and was dissolved by the acid. "Wha-what?" I asked. "I want to introduce you to him!" she chirped, "He's super nice and is kinda goofy, but super sweet!" In my head, I could see a chibi me holding out my heart to a chibi Weiss and she took it and carved Neptune's name into it and gave it back to me, pleased with her work. I shook my head and the image disappeared. "Oh...uh...sure, that won't be problem," I said. "Great!" Weiss said happily, "See you in class!" I stood there in the hallway like an idiot for a while. "See you too," I murmured sadly. I slowly trudged to class.

I sat in the third row of Professor Port's class. I had no need to pay attention for I had already memorized everything in the book as per Atlas Academies' teaching ways. So I focused my attention on a certain angel. "Excuse me, Ryan," Professor Port said, interrupting my thoughts. "Could you please tell me if Boarbatusk hunt in packs?" I focused my attention on him and replied, "No they do not hunt in packs as it is seen that one can handle itself in a fight, due to its armor plating and intelligence." The professor seemed kind of taken aback with my response as he thought I wasn't paying attention. "Well then!" he said, "Thank you Ryan!" He turned towards the class. "Everyone! This is the kind of attention we need to be paying towards my class in order to better yourself both as a scholar AND a Huntsman or Huntress." The professor continued on about Grimm and paying attention, but my mind was elsewhere.

Class was dismissed and I walked to Ms. Goodwitch's class, where she would be watching over us as we battled. I watched as my fellow classmates fought each other. I was incredibly bored as a lot of them didn't really have any 'special' skills. "Would Mr. Yuuto please come to the platform to face off against Cardin," Ms. Goodwitch announced. I leaned forward. "I've never seen Yuuto fight before. Guess I should study up now," I thought.

Yuuto and Cardin met in the center of the platform. Cardin, who was a whole head taller than Yuuto, laughed and said "I'm going to squash you like a bug." The arena counted down, "3,2,1... FIGHT!" Cardin swung his mace at Yuuto's head. He effortlessly dodged and leapt backwards. He ignited his hands into two balls of fire and stood at the ready. "Your little tricks won't scare me!" sneered Cardin. He ran towards Yuuto. Yuuto waited till Cardin was inches away before beginning his assault. He slammed his fist into Cardin's face and began pummeling his chest and arms with those fiery fists of his. Cardin was down before he even knew what happened. The arena announced Yuuto was the winner. He walked off the platform wordlessly. I whistled. "I wouldn't want to fight him," I thought.

"The next matchup shall be Ryan and Neptune!" the computer announced. "All right!" I thought. "I finally have a chance to size him up." I took off my jacket and walked down towards the platform. As I passed Weiss, she grabbed my arm. I looked at her expecting her to tell me to go easy on her 'boyfriend'. Instead, she looked at me and said "Be careful. Don't lose control again and please don't hurt yourself." I smiled at her. "Of course."

I reached the center and watched as a blue haired guy walked down to the platform. "Hey whats up?" he said. I did nothing except crack my knuckles. "I heard you were childhood friends with Weiss," he continued, "Doesn't mean I will go easy on you." He drew his gun. "I looked at him and flatly said, "I don't expect you to." The arena counted down, "3,2,1....FIGHT!" I drew my two swords and rushed him. He fired a few rounds at me. I deflected them with ease. Seeing it was futile to try and shoot me, he converted his gun into a Guandao. "Impressive weapon," I thought. I decided to keep on the attack, aiming for his legs and moving towards his blind spot. He deflected one of my strikes at his legs. "Nice try," he smirked. I growled and kicked him in the stomach. "Weiss really likes this guy?" I asked myself. Neptune retracted his guandao back into his rifle. He shot me four times in the chest as I was caught up in my thoughts. "Gotta pay attention to the battle," I mentally chided myself. I too also retracted my swords and combined them to make a sniper rifle. I shot at the ground propelling myself into the air and took aim. I knew I only had seconds to make the shot, so I had to be quick about it. I shot Neptune in both his legs. I also got a shot in on his arm. Through my cross hairs I could see him falter and fall on his knees. "Time for me to finish this," I thought. I landed and converted the sniper rifle into one giant sword. I sprinted towards him and swung it so the flat of the blade struck his chest and sent him flying. "Ryan wins by a RING OUT!!!" announced the arena.

I walked over to Neptune and held out a hand. "Need some help there?" I asked. He looked at my hand, then said, "Yeah, I do. Thanks." I pulled him up and watched as he dusted himself off and walked back towards his seat. I started to walk towards my seat too when I noticed Ruby sat in the front row, barely able to contain her excitement. I called over to her, "Go ahead Ruby, yell whatever you want!" She stood up and yelled, "You totally kicked butt!" I mouthed a thank you and returned to my seat. But one thing bothered me. Neptune didn't seem to be very focused during the fight. He left too many openings where I could attack. I pondered on this through the whole class. What was his mind really be on? Certainly not Weiss as he never smiled as one did when thinking of a loved one. What was really going on in his mind? I guess only time will tell.
