A Cold Truth

I walked to class, my heart heavy. I sat down in my seat in Professor Port's class and put my head on my desk. I felt someone slide into the seat next to me. "Is this seat taken?" I look up to see Yang. My eyes widened as she pecked me lightly on the cheek. I sat up straight. "What are you doing?" I demanded. She looked a little hurt. "I can't sit next to my boyfriend?" she asked innocently. Before I could say anything, the bell rang. "Good morning class!" exclaimed Professor Port. "Today we will continue our lecture on the characteristics of the King Taijitu. Can anyone give me an example?" Pyrrah raised her hand. "They are never alone. THey travel and hunt in pairs. Always black and white, hunting together." The professor nodded his head. "Excellent!" he said. The lesson went on as usual, minus the fact I was now 'dating'. The bell rang again, signaling class was over. I started packing up my stuff and stood up. "See you later," Yang said. I nodded. "Yeah, you too," I replied absentmindedly.

I left class and looked for Weiss. I saw her leave the building. I headed after her, calling her name. She stopped and turned. "Weiss, can I talk to you about something important?" I asked. "Sure," she said. Neptune appeared at her side as if out of thin air. 'What's up snow-angel?" he said. She giggled and they kissed. I clenched my fist. "Weiss, it's urgent," I insisted. They stopped kissing. "If it's that urgent, you can say it in front of me too," said Neptune. I resisted the temptation to punch him in the mouth. "Please, it's a private matter," I begged. Weiss turned and looked at her boyfriend. "I won't be long, you go on without me, I'll catch up." Neptune shrugged. "All right." He sauntered off. "So what did you need to tell me?" I breathed out. "Okay. Remember what I said to you at the hospital?" I asked. She shook her head. "Ryan, what are you talking about?" she asked nervously. "I need to ask you now, because it is killing me not knowing so." I breathed out. "When I told you I loved you, did you feel anything back, anything at all?" I asked. Tears welled up in her eyes. "Don't ask me that," she whispered. I stepped towards her. "I need to know," I said. She took a step back. "Please, I can't answer that," she begged. I looked down towards the ground. "You don't do you?" I asked sadly. She looked at me with great sadness in her eyes. "No, I don't love you in that way. I love you as a brother, someone who could never be replaced," she said. I nodded. "So that's the way it ends, huh?" I asked. "A brother." I breathed out. "That's all I needed to hear," I said. I turned my back to her. "Good bye Weiss." I left her standing in the courtyard, and my heart destroyed.
