Sophie Delaney was just minding her own business seeing in the new year from the peacefulness of her own...
"Um... can you hang up and then when I call you back, send me to voicemail?"
"What?"
"I want to leave you an answerphone message."
"Why?"
"Because I do. Now, hang up and then when I call you back, ignore my call."
"You're weird, but ok."
"Thanks."

"Hello, this is Sophie Clément. Leave a message at the tone. Bye."
"Ok, so to avoid you biting my head off like you did last night, I'm leaving you a message. Let's get the important stuff out of the way first- Lucas is fine. I went to visit him earlier after work and he's looking really good Soph. You mum said that she was going to take some pictures to send to you and Emma, for you to see the progress he's making.
Look, I know you're worried about your brother- and I understand that! I do because I was exactly the same when Samuel was in hospital in Thailand- but Sophie, you cannot take it out on me. I know it's frustration on your part because you're on the other side of the world but... Lucas is fine. He's having the best care in the world and he's going to get back to normalcy soon enough, so you need to do that, too.
That means you and I can have our daily chats without it becoming weird and what not. I know you're probably thinking that I'm taking the cowards way out by telling you all this in an answerphone message but I was scared that if we did this in real time, it would descend into an argument and that's what I'm trying to avoid.
So, yeah. Tomorrow, can we please get back to normal, 'gator? I love you, Sophie, never doubt that. I'll call you again tomorrow. Bye."

Daniel is totally taking the cowards way out!
No chapter tomorrow because there was a chapter overload last weekend. Plus, I'm staying with my over the weekend and she probably wouldn't appreciate it if I was going to write for most of tomorrow.
I'll update earlier tomorrow before I leave, and a little later on Sunday after I come back.
