"That vase- no matter how ugly it is- stays. It's made it through the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, the First and Second World Wars as well as The Great Divorce of 1966! I'm damned well going to make sure it gets through you moving in. I do not want to be the one that tells my grand-mère that the vase is no longer. When we have a daughter and she turns eighteen, then by all means she can shatter it into billions of shards but it will not happen on my watch!
"You can get rid of everything else. But the vase stays.
