“Who is this boy, Garrett?” My mother asked. I didn’t know what I was going to tell them.

“This is Daemon he’s my…friend?” I lied to them. I couldn’t say what his relation to me really was.

“I don’t like him.” My father said.

“You’ve barely met him. You can’t have an opinion on someone that quickly.”

“Garrett I can handle it myself.” Daemon touched my arm.

“Sorry little boy but you need to leave, this isn’t your home.”

“It’s not yours either. And if I was to choose who I wanted to stay more it would be him.” I defended Daemon. They had no right to say these things to him.

“Garrett shut up. This is between us and him now.”

“No. Anything you say to him you have to say to me too.”

“Have it your way. We forbid you two to see each other.”

“What the fuck, mom? You can’t do that. He’s one of my first friends.”

“So, one of your first friends turns you gay?” I looked surprised. “Don’t even go there. What you two are doing is more than two friends would do.”

“Mom, he didn’t turn me gay. I’ve known for a few years now. Besides no one can just turn gay, I was born this way. Deal with it.” I was tempted to hit or slap her or leave but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

“We own you, we bought this apartment for you, we bought the clothes on back for you, don’t make us take it away.”

“I think it’s time you left.” I told her.

“Well if we’re leaving so is he.” She told me. But I didn’t say anything, I couldn’t say anything. My throat was tightened.

“You can’t make me do anything, you’re not the boss of me, and I can stay if I want. He actually wants me here.” Daemon stood up for himself again, which could be a bad thing.

“You better watch your tone. I’m not afraid to get rid of you.” My mother threatened Daemon.

“I’m not afraid of you, so you can stop threatening me.” He told her off.

“Don’t make me hurt you. I don’t even care if he watches.”

“That’s too far; you’d kill him, in front of me?” I asked her, finally regaining my ability to speak.

“I’d do anything to get rid of him.” My mom said.

“Just leave, now!” I told her, trying not to cry, while doing so.

“Garrett, Daemon you will rue this day.” My mom told us as she passed by us. My dad though was still standing in front of us.

“What is it?” I asked him, though I just wanted him to leave.

“I don’t care who you see, but I know it’ll always be a guy, I knew it before this happened. Your mother is stubborn, but I’ll be on my way.” I put my arm out to stop him, and pulled him into a hug. I whispered a thank you to him and then let him leave.
