3Gun's Sonata

With everyone back home

and no place left to roam

3Gun looked fervently at the hammock

His rental was over

And he'd paid Lean Clover

But he'd keep it 'til he ran out of luck

He strummed his guitar string

The climbed into the sling

And sang, eyes closed, to the room

The song was a sad one

And tears filled his eyes

Not the gunfighter one might assume

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, the prairie moon shines down on Busted Gulch

and in the sky above the stars all play

The saloon's piano roll is playin' love songs

But the words are missin' that I want to say

Oh, the mornin' sun lights up, the town awakens

and the previous night's romance has gone away

Without any words to tell you that I love you

I guess I'll have to wait and try another day

If I had words that say I love you in the way I want to say

and there was music for romance, then I would surely find a way

I would sing my heart's entreaty so it's heard across the land

And you would listen to my love song just the way I planned

Oh the prairie moon, the mornin' sun all have their part to play,

the music of the night and the melody of the day

And if your heart is open to those words I sing to you

You'll hear their echo in the mountains,

in the wind across the plains,

in the babbling of the river

and in the sky above . . . so . . . blue
