Incarcerated Conversations

Ruby stirs a caldron of chocolate,

Surface bubbling, liquid hot.

Remembering her..pri...

unexpected guest,

she went down to her cellar,

where cat food cans and

dried tuna lined the shelves.

She undid her prisoner,

and brought her up for a treat.

"Hello Kae, it's nice to see

someone who will actually

talk to me!"

"I didn't chose to talk,

you cat-obsessed witch!

I tried to rescue some kittens,

and THIS is the treatment

I'm stuck with!?!?"

"It was just a precaution,

my dear.

I didn't want you saying something,

and have someone hear."

"I'd be doing my job,

you wizened old rat.

I'm the town investigator,

it says so on my hat."

"A rat is something

a cat would eat.

and I doubt my fur babies

would find me a treat."

"Stop beating around the bush,

and tell me something straight:

Why go this far?

I didn't mean to offend."

"I didn't think you'd find

my niece

to be as interesting

as apparent.

But then again,

even I assume wrong. "

"Niece?? What??

Stannbear's head will explode!

Anyway, that's irrelevant.

Why was kidnapping me

your only opportunity?"

"I had to put some sense

into you, girl,

before everything went wrong."

"Just let me free,

I'll hide the truth."

"I can't trust you,

you've dug in too deep.

Now, my darling, would you care

for a treat?"

"Bribery won't solve your problems,

witch!

Just let me free!

It'll go without a hitch!"

"But stay, my dear,

I really do insist.

Just a bowl of pudding

for your assistance?"

"Don't try flattery,

you wizened relic.

I'm not stupid, or vain.

I know my value,

so don't try to improve it."

"I'm not kidding, my dear,

I do have pudding, to

repay my debt to that

sheriff of yours."

"Sure, take it into town.

The police

force would love

to take you down.

Better yet, take me too!"

"Oh? Me take it? No, no,

You're going to take it."

"I refuse to be a part

of your nefarious plan.

If you want something done,

do it, I'm not a pawn

to be played."

She loaded all but one

of the kittens into the wagon,

and left the last at Kae's feet.

"If you won't help me,

then stay in your place.

Or you'll learn that Jasper

is not just a pretty face."

"I guess that means

I'll be here when you return."

"Of course it will, my dear,

or you'll be sautéed and

made Kitty Brunch!"
