What She's Been Up To
So she took off into the dust,
Bidding CrazyGoose farewell.
She had a mission to accomplish
(It was really quite vague,
Something about family and laws?)
But hey, she went anyways.
So she rode and rode
For a good half day,
Until her boots grew wet,
And Kae realized they'd stumbled
Into the winding creek
That brought gold to BG.
Steering the horse towards shore,
She went looting through her saddlebags.
Lo and behold, in went her map.
By the time it was recovered,
The ink was all smeared.
Cursing her bad luck, still onwards
they trudged.
Following the windy trail,
Until a fork was reached,
And a decision had to be made.
Kae went left
(That's what the map said,
Right?),
Climbing over hills,
Crevices, and valleys.
Eventually, after practical days
(A few hours, actually)
There came to be a cabin,
Musty, cobwebby, and empty.
Sources said it was Croc's.
Our brave investigator continued
Investigating?
Looking through the dry woodpile,
Under floorboards and moldy hay,
General snooping.
Under the mildewy rug, however,
In a hole in the floor, was
A little wooden chest, filled,
Stuffed quite full.
It looked to contain keepsakes,
A handkerchief, invitations,
And a thick stack made up of
Unread letters.
Letters from a
Miss Galina Diamond.
They were quite old,
But something to work with.
So Kae stashed the box,
Hopped back on Fred the Horse,
And went back to town,
Riding night and day.
She went back to the saloon,
Needing coffee, sleep and food.
Inside, however, was the rest of the gang.
Surprised at her appearance,
Their conversation dropped.
A hot breakfast was bought.
After a few moments of very quick eating,
She put down her fork, and looked quickly around.
Dropping her tone to a whisper, she asked the table:
"Does anyone know of a Miss Galina Diamond,
And what she would have wanted with one
Cadmus Croc?"
