Emma walked into the Cafeteria, lunch in hand and headed straight to the table where everyone was already seated. The blonde sat down opposite Ruby in the spare seat next to August.
Ruby stared at her friend for a moment, "what's biting you, Em? You like you don't know whether to be happy, sad or ready to punch someone" she commented.
The girl shrugged, "it's nothing" she mumbled.
The brunette's eyes narrowed on the blonde for a moment, "something is wrong. Whether it be something or someone. Speak up, Swan" she snapped suddenly taking everyone by surprise.
Everyone at the table looked at Emma in anticipation to see what she was going to say.
Emma shook her head, "it's nothing" the girl mumbled again.
Ruby rolled her eyes and August flung his arm over the smaller girl's shoulder, "come on, Swanny, we know it's something" he said giving her a small shake.
Emma didn't respond to them. Her sea-green eyes drifted across the room and landed on Zelena who was sitting alone at a table in the centre of the room.
People kept looking at her whispering and sniggering before moving on, "come on, Em, just..." The blonde turned around to face Ruby, "it's nothing! Nothing happened and even if something did happen I don't want to talk about it so just drop it" she snapped harshly causing everyone to jump.
Emma frowned, instantly regretting it, "sorry" she mumbled softly.
Ruby shrugged, "it's okay, we shouldn't have pushed you" she replied in a small voice.
The blonde nodded before getting to her feet, "I'll be back in a minute" she muttered before making her way over to Zelena.
Emma sat down next to the redhead causing her to jump, "hey" she greeted the girl kindly.
Zelena looked up at the blonde and smiled, "hey, Swan, how was English?" she asked raising an eyebrow.
The taller girl shrugged, "Regina apologised for her comment on Saturday, and for kissing me on Friday night" Emma told her in a low voice.
Zelena looked at the girl in surprise, "really? Wow" Zelena muttered softly.
Emma shrugged, "doesn't matter though, I told her that it was okay" she told her, forcing a small smile.
Zelena raised an eyebrow, "and how'd she take that?" she asked trying to get all the details she could out of the blonde.
Emma frowned, "quite well at first but something in her just seemed to snap and I don't think she'll be talking to me for a little while" she muttered a replied.
The redhead turned to face the girl completely, "now you have to tell me everything!" she yelled, "spill now, Emma!" she snapped.
Emma felt her full, wrinkled lips press gently against her own, it took the young girl by surprise at first, but she soon kissed the older woman back. The blonde's free hand rested on her cheek as she squeezed the tanned hand that was still entwined with her own.
After a few seconds, Regina suddenly pulled back and pulled away from the blonde completely, "I'm so sorry" she mumbled, "I really shouldn't have done that" the brunette scolded herself, moving away from the blonde and back behind her desk.
Emma shook her head, "Regina, it's fine" she told her.
Regina looked up at the young girl and scoffed, "God you're not even of legal age, Emma, and you're my student for Christ's sake" she snapped running her hand through her raven hair.
The blonde took a step back at her tone. The older woman sighed and frowned at the girl's reaction to her sudden harshness.
'She's never acted this way towards me, I've seen her like this to others but never to me. She and I are always joking and teasing each other. This is like a completely new side of her that I have never seen before' Emma thought to herself unsure of how to react.
"You should go, Emma" the woman told her before turning away from the young blonde.
Emma frowned, "Regina..." She mumbled softly.
Regina turned to face her again, her eyes narrowed, "Leave. Now, Miss Swan" she growled.
The blonde cowered away slightly, "I guess this was the Evil Queen that everyone was on about, the one that everyone was so afraid of, I see it now." Emma thought to herself but refused to say out loud.
Emma nodded slowly, "I'll see you tomorrow, Miss Mills" she mumbled before swiftly walking out of the room.
Emma let out a small sigh, "I'm not up for talking about it right now" she told the redhead with a small frown.
The blonde half expected the girl to jump into action and try to get her to tell her what happened, but Emma was very surprised when she didn't, Zelena dropped it completely and nodded.
Emma forced a smile, "anyways, how has today been for you? Besides the obvious" Emma asked her softly as she motioned to a few people who were staring at them from other tables.
Zelena shrugged, "I don't know what I was expecting, honestly, I'm used to this. I was alone for years before Kathryn basically took me in so it's not much different. I don't know, I guess I expected worse" she told the girl honestly.
The new girl nodded, "right, well, are you coming back over to my table with me? I did say that I wasn't going to leave you by yourself" she told the girl.
Zelena looked at the blonde for a moment then over to the table where all the girl's friends were sitting then back to her again.
The redhead sighed before replying, "I don't know, Swan, I don't think Ruby would be too happy" she told her.
Emma shook her head, "I'll handle Ruby, come on. I'm not gonna leave you alone until you come with me and tats saying a lot cause my food is over there" she joked light-heartedly causing them both to laugh.
Zelena nodded slowly before getting to her feet and walking over with the blonde. The redhead sat down next to the blonde as Emma quickly tucked into the lunch that she had not yet started.
Ruby stared at her friend and then looked over at Zelena, "why are you here?" she asked in a slightly rude tone.
Zelena made eye contact with her, "Emma brought me over" she told her with a slight smirk.
Ruby scowled, "cut the crap, Zelena" she snapped.
Zelena sighed, "I got kicked to the curb, satisfied now, Lucas?" Zelena responded in a similar tone.
The brunette looked over at Kathryn who had already found herself a new toy to play with, "that doesn't mean I forgive you, but I'll look past it for the time being. My trust has to be earned" she told the redhead in a stern voice.
Zelena simply nodded, "well, I was expecting worse so that seems fair" she responded with a smile.
After that just the usual buzz of conversation flooded the table.
Emma's eyes drifted over to the door where they were met by a pair of familiar cocoa eyes. After a second, she was gone.
'She obviously just came to check on Zelena to make sure that she wasn't sitting alone. As if I was going to just leave Zelena after what happened, I would never stoop that low, I'm not that kind of person' Emma thought to herself.
