Regina stared at the empty seat in front of her desk. It's been three days since Emma's been in school. She'd been counting. Nervousness had begun building up in my stomach over the days and now she was overrun with concern for the young blonde.
The bell rang, and her class scurried away to go to lunch. She let out a harsh sigh and leant back in her chair. The brunette missed Emma in so many ways. It's not only not being with her; not being able to hold her, kiss her but also just seeing her beautiful sea-green eyes every day.
There was a soft knock on the door snapping Regina out of her thoughts. She looked up to see the familiar, piercing, ice-blue eyes of her sister.
Regina greeted the girl with a small smile, "hey, Reg. Is Emma in today?" She asked gently.
"No, sorry, Z" she replied with a frown.
The redhead sighed, "I'm worried about her, we all are. She hasn't been answering her phone for the past few days" she explained.
Regina bit her lower lip. She knew little of the new rules that Mary Margaret has enforced from what Zelena has passed on to her. The brunette was worried about the girl; her girl.
The older woman shifted nervously in her seat, "I don't know, Z" she muttered breathlessly.
Regina's phone started ringing through the silence causing me to jump.
"Hello?" She answered quickly.
"Regina?" The masculine voice asked urgently.
The brunette furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "David? How did you get my number?" She asked.
Zelena shifted slightly from her spot in the doorway, "Emma's phone. I need you to come round here" he ordered.
"Why? What's going on? Is Emma alright?" She asked him urgently.
Zelena was alert in an instant, "she's gotten worst, Regina. She's stopped eating, she hasn't moved in days" he explained, his voice laced with concern and worry.
Regina leapt to her feet in an instant, "I'll be there in a few minutes" she said quickly before hanging up the phone.
The brunette started shoving her stuff into her bag at random, "Reg, is Emma okay?" Zelena asked urgently.
Regina let out a ragged sigh as she ran her hand through her raven hair, "I don't know, Z. I don't know" she mumbled.
"Can you go to the office for me? Make up some excuse about an emergency or something?" The older woman asked her sister quickly.
Zelena nodded instantly, "thank you, Zelena" Regina said placing a quick kiss on her cheek before swiftly leaving the room.
.
Regina knocked on the apartment door about ten minutes later.
It opened, and she greeted David with a nervous smile, "I'm glad you're here, Regina" he mumbled quickly inviting the woman inside.
The brunette pulled off her coat and hung it up, "what's going on?" She asked him quickly.
He frowned, "you're the only person that could possibly get through to her" he explained.
Regina bit her lower lip as she looked around, Mary Margaret wasn't home, "your wife doesn't know I'm here, does she?" She asked innocently.
David let out a soft sighed and shook his head, "no, she doesn't" he mumbled honestly.
The tall man sighed, "she thinks Emma is just acting out but there's something much more going on here. She's stopped eating, she can't stomach anything. I didn't want to leave her by herself while I'm at the station. I thought she would love to have you here with her" he explained.
"Okay" the woman mumbled.
"Thank you, Regina."
.
After the man left Regina slowly and hesitantly climbed up the steps to Emma's room. She looked across the room to see the girl tangled in a mix of limbs, bedsheets and blonde hair.
The brunette made her way over to the bed and leaned down next to her. Regina gently trailed her fingers through Emma's blonde curls moving the messy strands out of her face. The girl was pale, much more than normal, the soft pink colour that used to rest on her cheeks had vanished. Her skin was slightly warmer than normal, she was clad in just a tank top and her underwear.
"Emma" Regina mumbled trying to urge her awake.
The blonde let out a soft whimper, "Gina?" She whispered, her voice raspy and broken.
Regina felt her heart drop as she heard the sound, "I'm here, Baby" she whispered.
The brunette watched as her eyes slowly opened. Her eyes were a dull grey colour.
"Come try and eat something, beautiful" she mumbled softly.
The blonde shook her head, "just lie here with me" she requested taking Regina's hand in her own.
Regina frowned, "you have to eat something, Baby" she told her gently.
The blonde nodded slowly as she sat up, "okay" she whispered.
.
The pair sat in the living room. The young blonde was curled up on the couch with a grilled cheese sandwich on her lap.
Emma looked up at the woman, "how are you here?" She asked innocently now that she was a little more awake.
Regina sighed, "your father called me. He's worried about you, Em" she explained to her.
The blonde looked much smaller, thinner, more fragile. The dark circles under her eyes were grey and prominent.
Emma bit her lower lip nervously, "my mother doesn't know you're here, does she?" She mumbled.
The brunette shook her head, "no, she doesn't."
Emma took a few more bites out of the sandwich before setting the plate down on the coffee table. She sat there for a minute with her head in her hands.
Regina laid her hand on the blonde's back, "are you okay, Em?" She asked her gently.
Within seconds the young woman was on her feet and running towards the bathroom.
The older woman quickly followed her, "Emma, sweetie" she called softly from the other side of the door.
"Don't come in here!" The blonde yelled.
Regina chuckled softly at the girl's request before headed to get the young woman a glass of water.
The brunette opened the bathroom door as the toilet flushed. Regina looked over to see Emma leaning against the bath with her head in her hands. The brunette sat down next to her and handed her the glass.
The young woman smiled weakly, "thanks" she mumbled as she took a sip.
Regina gently took her hand in her own, "come on" she whispered softly.
Emma nodded slowly as the brunette gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
.
Regina led the blonde back out to the couch. The pair sat down, and Emma stared at the older woman longingly.
The brunette chuckled and opened her arms, "come on then" she joked light-heartedly knowing exactly what the blonde was seeking.
The young girl smiled and cuddled herself comfortably against the older woman's side. Regina wrapped her arms securely around her waist.
Regina let out a soft sigh as Emma rubbed her nose against the base of her neck, "I miss you, Gina" she whimpered.
The brunette frowned as she trailed her fingers through the younger woman's matted blonde hair. Regina felt Emma's breathing slow to a steady pace. The woman stayed were she was, holding the blonde tight in her arms as she slept.
