The week actually went by rather quickly. Before I knew it, it was already Friday and Tyler was giving me a ride home. Apparently the lacrosse team had won some big game. The whole school was talking about it. Well, everybody but me of course. But because they had won, the coach gave them the day off from practice.
Josh was in the backseat. He was venting about something. "I'm so pissed."
"Let it go," Tyler suggested.
"No! Tye, it's not fair!"
"What's not fair?" I wondered.
"He's mad that Lucy Evans didn't give him the time of day," Tyler admitted.
"Well it's not fair," Josh sighed. "See, she walks up to Jeremy and I and looks straight at Jeremy and she says, I heard you had a great game last night. Bull shit! I played way better than him. I scored a goal and he scored nothing!"
"He plays defense," Tyler reminded.
"Who the hell cares? The point is Lucy should have been drooling over me and my skills. Not Jeremy. It just sucks." He let out another deep sigh. "I would have loved to hit that."
"Aw poor you," I said sarcastically.
"Shut up Banks," Josh spat. "I didn't get any love from you either. Or Sky. I saw her today but she just ran in the opposite direction. She's kind of strange. And that's kind of intriguing."
"Why don't you ask Sky out then?" I asked, hoping Josh would jump on the opportunity.
"Sky? Come on, she doesn't want a boyfriend. She just wants good grades. Besides, she wouldn't like a guy like me."
I bit my lip. It wasn't my place to say anything, but if it was I would have screamed at Josh. I would have made sure that he knew that Sky liked him in return.
"Why am I in the backseat?" Josh wondered.
"Because I'm great and you're not," I informed.
"No, I think it's because Tyler has a little crush on you."
I watched as Tyler's face turned bright red. Before he could stutter out a comeback, I stepped in. "He doesn't like me like that. We are just friends."
I looked over at Tyler, who gave me a nod of gratitude. Ever since that night, I had more respect for Tyler. It took courage for him to admit to me that I was something special to him. And after thinking about it for awhile, I realized that he wouldn't have said those things if he really had truly moved passed me.
Hopefully I was right.
Tyler pulled up to my house. "So what are you guys doing tonight?" I said as I unbuckled my seatbelt.
"Well I would be banging Lucy if it wasn't for Jeremy," Josh growled. "So Tye and I are seeing a movie."
"Yeah and since Josh lost a bet he has to pay for it," Tyler told.
A smirk passed onto my face. "So you guys are seeing a movie alone together on a Friday night and Josh is paying? Isn't that a date?"
Josh and Tyler exchanged a frightening glance. "Or I can pay," Tyler suggested.
Josh nodded in agreement. "And we can invite more people."
Tyler nodded. Then he turned to me with a big grin. "Chloe..."
