Chapter 16

~~~~~Jade's POV:~~~~~

"Are you okay Jade?" Amber comes into my room. 

I'm lying on my bed staring at my Little Mix DNA Album.

"I'm fine, thanks." I reply flatly. My chance. MY chance. And I lost it - to Arianna.

"I'll just leave you then," Amber says.

"Sure, whatever." I say, not really listening. I'm too busy daydreaming. About what my life COULD have been. The two parts of my mind fight against each other.

No. It's over. I've lost my chance.

Big deal. I'll get another chance sooner or later.

I will never get another chance. I will be at this orphanage until I'm old and I die.

Stop being like that! You're so negative.

"Both of you stop!" I shout out loud. I must sound mad, shouting at myself. I can't help it. I'm so used to having Arianna to talk to.

Someone knocks quietly on my door. 

"Go away Rachel!" I groan.

"It's Mrs Smith."

I sigh and get up to open the door. Mrs Smith comes in and stands there, looking at me. I sigh again and fall down onto my bed.

"You're not okay Jade."

"Fine, fine! But please just leave me alone, OK?"

"No. I want to help." she says firmly. "You're missing Arianna aren't you?"

"No! I'm not!" I shout, letting it all out. "She betrayed me, that little-"

"Calm down, Jade. I'm sure she didn't mean to. Arianna was desperate to be adopted. You would have done the same if they had asked you."

"They did ask me. I said no because I had a best friend here who I had been with for 13 years and I didn't want to be adopted without her!" I say this all in one breath, choke and start crying.

"Oh, Jade." Mrs Smith says sympathetically. "Jade, Jade, Jade. What will we do with you."

When Arianna started crying, I was out of my depth. Perrie knew how to deal with her though, so it was OK.

I've just remembered that girl who we wanted to adopt first. She was very loyal to her friend. I wonder who her friend was, what a lucky friend!
