Okay so I got this idea from Nathalie_95 it's a bit different, but I thought it would be funny

Imagine explaining to the dwarves and legolas  who Santa is and santas little helpers 😂😂 it does have a little bit of religion. Just FYI. So just skip the beginning if you don't like it

"Y/N, what's a holiday that you celebrate with your family?" Thorin asked as you sat by the fire.

"Well, I celebrate Christmas. It's where we celebrate the birth of Jesus. To us, he is the son of God-who created us."

"What about traditions?" Fili asked eagerly.

"Well, for the children, we have Santa Claus, and his little helpers, and elf on the shelf. "

"What on earth is that?" Dwalin asked.

"Santa Claus is basically a person that children believe in, on Christmas Eve he comes down the chimney with gifts for everyone while everyone's asleep. "

"That's interesting!" The dwarves spoke as you grinned.

"What's he look like?" Thorin asked as you showed him a picture. A deep frown crossed his face as he huffed. "That's a horrible excuse for a beard."

"Who are Santas little helpers?" Legolas asked "and what is this elf on the shelf you speak of?"

"Well," you began nervously "Santas helpers help create all the toys for all the children in the world for Santa to deliver. That way, by Christmas Eve, Santa can bring the gifts to the children. "

Legolas nodded as he asked another question "yes but what are they?"

You smiled nervously. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you."

"Try me."

"They're elves Legolas, tiny elves."

The dwarves began to moan in disappointment

"What a load of rubbish!"

"You can never trust an elf!"

"Well what do they look like?" Legolas asked as you continued

"They wear red and green clothes, they have rosy cheeks, and they are happy a lot of the times." You pulled up a pic on your phone (bc y not?) and showed Legolas, who scoffed and flipped his hair.

"Those are not elves, we are much more sophisticated than that. " Legolas paused. "But what is this elf on the shelf you speak of?"

"Well, our market decided to expand this belief and create little elf dolls. Each child will get a package and they name the elf that they get, but they can't touch the elf, for it will supposedly lose its magic. Anyways, the doll watches the children to make sure that they behave-"

Dori: what kind of parenting is that?

You continued "and at the end of the day the elf supposedly will leave when everyone is asleep as report back to Santa and come back in a different spot everyday to continue to watch the children. "

Ori piped up "what happens if the elf gets touched?" (Not that way lmao)

You frowned "they lose their magic and probably die. "

An argument started as they all disagreed with this idea.

"This idea is ridiculous!" Dwalin spoke up "there is no such thing!"

"Don't say that! There is always hope!" Ori interjected as Dori patted him on the back

"Of course sweetie."

"Wait isn't it December?" Legolas asked "When will we get ours?"

"I don't know it just depends." You smiled "they should come soon."

That night, you had the watch while everyone was asleep. Quietly, you went in front of one of the dwarves and found a low branch close to their face. Quietly, and quickly, you tied an elf on the shelf doll on a string and then tied it to the branch so the dolls face was right in front of the dwarves eyes.

All you had to do was wait for your masterpiece.

There was a sudden scream as you bolted and saw a frightened Nori staring at the elf hanging by the string, right in front of its eyes.

"You've been a bad boy Nori." You spoke as Nori jerked at your voice. He took his axe and chopped it down.

"DONT TOUCH IT YOULL KILL IT AND ITS MAGIC!" Ori yelled as he ran over to the doll and Thorin and Dwalin rolled their eyes. Legolas couldn't help but smile.

"ITS SORCERY THAT DOLL IS!"
Nori yelled as you doubled over with laughter.

"Someone's gonna get a bad report." Fili and Kili taunted before busting out into hysterics.

"It's the elf doll!" Ori spoke as he protected it from his violent brother.

"I'll take that." Dori spoke as he used a set of Tongs and placed them in his bag. "Next time you do something your not supposed to do, you'll be seeing this doll again."

Nori paled as he began to run after Dori, who was running away with the bag.

Thorin sidled up to you on his pony. "That isn't real is it."

"No, not really, but it gives something for the children to believe in, and to behave more." You chuckled as Thorin and Dwalin joined in."just keep this between us tho, Kay? This is hilarious."

You turned around to see Ori with these big doe eyes.

"Ori What's wrong?"

He sniffed "Santa isn't real?"

You sighed, here we go.
