We drove into our apartment building, which was tall and wide. It was very intimidating even though we're only on the fourth floor.

Pony and I got out of the car, hand in hand, and walked into our new apartment building. It was so dirty inside, which was kind of gross, but i will have to get used to it.

4A24 was our apartment number. We walked all the way up there with all of our stuff (which wasn't a lot). We began to walk down the hall, looking at each number.

We walked past on door, where we could here high pitch screaming and creaking of bed springs. I looked at Ponyboy in disgust. He chuckled a little, understanding.

We got into our apartment, finally. Unfortunately, it's right across the hall from the "screamers". Just our luck. It was only one three rooms. A bathroom, a bedroom, and then everything else.

"Listen, Luc, I know it's not ideal, but I think with some imagi-"

"I love it."

I said, smiling at him. I kissed him, and he snaked his arms around my waist. He lifted me off the ground.

"Come here, you!"

He said, while kissing me softly on the lips.

"Get me down!!! Get me down!"

I said, laughing. He chuckled along with me. I knew this was going to be a great new adventure.

A while later, I heard a knock on the door. I got up from the floor (we didn't have any furniture yet), and opened the door to a very pretty, sort of greaser looking girl. She was maybe a year or two older than me.

"Hi there! I'm Jess. I live right across the hall."

She said. Aha! So she's the screamer. Actually, that kinda grossed me out a little bit. Ponyboy got up and came to my side, holding my hand.

"Hello. I'm Lucy, and this is Ponyboy."

I said to her. She laughed at his name, which is natural.

"What an original name! You guys are cute."

She said, smiling. I smiled back at her.

"Now, let me guess. You got her pregnant, so you eloped to the cheapest apartments you can find after your parents kicked you out, am I right? I'm right. I know I'm right."

I widened my eyes and put my have on my stomach. Ponyboy looked at me, then back at her.

"Hey, I'm not pregnant! Why the hell would you say that!? We just met!"

"And you, the little boyfriend. You don't seem to talk much. I have a feeling that's your relationship with each other. She does most of the talking, am I right?"

She said, tauntingly.

"Listen, she ain't pregnant, I ain't a mute, and it sure ain't any of your business! Now come back when you can learn to be civil!"

Ponyboy said, slamming the door shut.

I held my hand to my stomach. Was I getting fatter? Do I really talk too much? All of her remarks got to my head. I started to tear up. Ponyboy hugged me.

"Hey, hey, hey, don't you go listening to a word she says. She doesn't know us. Don't believe her. You're perfect, and her words don't change that."

He said to me. He kissed the top of my head. I smiled.

"I love you, Ponyboy Curtis."

I said to him.

"I love you too, Lucy Burns."
