Broken faces. Sodapop and Steve couldn't take in what had happened. I still can't either. To think that I will never get to see Kitty or Dally ever again scared me beyond compare. Kitty was such a sweet, careless,
loving girl, and Dallas was a gallant, young rebel. They meant everything to each other, and that's what killed me. They loved each other, and they loved Rosie more than anything. Their daughter, left alone to fend for herself in this cruel world. She will never remember her true parents, and, I'm afraid neither will I at some point.
"The doctor told me that their car flipped four times. Dallas was speeding or somethin and it flipped I guess. Some sort of freak accident or somethin', I don't know."
Sodapop said to us. We were all sitting at the table. Rosie was in my lap, while Soda and Steve were on opposite sides of me. Ponyboy left for work about a half hour ago. I looked down at Rosie. All I could see from my view was her tuff red hair. It used to be dark brown, but, now that she's grown older, it's gotten redder. I looked out the window, and back at Steve and Soda, who were both staring at me.
"Are you sure about this? Ponyboy made this decision practically for you."
I nodded. Then I began to cry. Soda held my hand as tears began to spill down my face.
"I can do it, it's just that, she will never have a real mother or a real father. She'll grow up thinking it's me and Pony, and that scares me. The future scares me."
They both sympathetically nodded. Soda rubbed my hand. I could hear Rosie yawn. I smiled a little bit.
"But, I know I'm doing the right thing. This is what Kitty and Dallas would've wanted."
I assured myself. I lifted my hand out of Sodas grip and picked Rosie up. I went into the ice box and got her some milk.
"Everything's going to be okay, Lucy. After all, you've got all the gang to help you out with her. We can all help. You're only 18, you shouldn't have to do this."
Soda said. I nodded as I fed Rosie. She was nestled in my arms. She felt warm, and the warmth filled my heart. Her bright green eyes reminded me of Ponys. Mysterious, yet so emotional. I smiled. Everything would be okay.
