I woke up bright and early, per usual. Rosie would typically wake up around 5:30 in the morning, which is about 2 hours before I'm usually fully awake.

So this is what it's like to be a mom.

I got out of bed and walked over to Rosie's crib when I noticed that Jess wasn't there. I picked Rosie up and walked over to the couch, where I had last seen Jess.

I was surprised to see a note laid of the table next to the couch. Curious, I whispered it out loud just so I could hear, trying not to wake Pony (it was his day off).

"Lucy and Ponyboy,

I just want to let you guys know that I have gone away for some time. I don't know when I will be back, but just know that I will be back. I just need some time away from my past. I need to escape from the monster that I call myself. I don't want to be the person I was a few months ago. If the baby lives, I want it to not fuck up as much as I have in my life. Also, please tell Sodapop that when I love him very much, and I still will when I come home.

I will see you soon

Thanks for everything,

Jessica"

I read it over a few times just to make sense of all of it. I hear Ponyboy wake up in the distance, but I channel that out and focus at the task at hand. Ponyboy shuffles his way out of bed as I stand there, motionless.

"Babe, what's wrong?"

He moaned. He was so cute when he's half awake.

"Jess ran away. All she left was this note."

I said to him. I read it out loud, and then I sat down on the couch, resting Rosie on my lap. I tiredly rubbed my eyes as I tried to figure out where she could have gone. Pony sat right next to me, and took Rosie from my lap. He hugged her close to him as he gazed into my restless eyes.
