I got ready for the dinner at around 4:00, because I wanted to look my best. I felt extremely nervous to meet Ponyboy's boss and coworkers. I felt like I wasn't going to be social enough.

Ponyboy and I were the youngest ones at the dinner. We walked in, he held my shaking hand, and a well dressed Middle Aged man greeted us at the door.

"Well if it isn't Ponyboy Curtis? And is this Mrs.Curtis?"

The man asked. I blushed and nervously shook my head.

"No, sir, she's my girlfriend. Mr. Keen, this is Lucy, Lucy, this is Mr. Keen."

I smiled at him as he smiled at me. I shook his hand, even though i knew mine was probably sweaty.

"Please, come in."

He smiled as we walk in. Ponyboy kept his hand latched onto mine, just for comfort.

"Don't worry about these guys, they're cool. I promise."

He said, and smiled at me. He kissed me on the forehead.

"Well well well, who knew anyone could love our little Ponyboy?"

Ponyboy and I looked up. A man, maybe a few years older than us, stood before us. He was cute. He sort of looked like he should be in a movie, like, a super hero movie. He walked closer to me.

"And who is this fine young lady we have here?"

He asked, as he kissed my hand. I swooned.

"She's my fiancé, Jack. Back off."

Ponyboy defended. I felt my eyes widen as he told the lie. He squeezed my hand, indicating to me that he knows his mistake. I decided to go with it.

"Well, Pony man, I don't see a ring on the girls finger, so she's up for grabs!"

He said. Ponyboy put his hand around my waist and walked away from Jack.

"What was that guy all about?"

I asked him. Ponyboy looked uncomfortable. He took me over to the corner opposite where Jack was talking to another coworker.

"This was the only reason why I didn't want to bring you here. Jack is obsessed with being better than everyone, which also means he tries to sleep with every girl around. Just, don't talk to him, okay? I've heard that ninety eight percent that do end up pregnant."

I nodded, understandingly.

"He's the only wacked up one, I promis-"

"Why did you call me your fiancé?"

He sat uncomfortably in his own skin, I could tell.

"I'm sorry, Lucy. I was just trying to protect you. I didn't mean no harm in saying so. I just didn't want Jack to get any ideas of sleepin with my girl is all."

I smiled at Ponyboy and nodded.

Please, everyone take a seat around the table, dinner will be served in a few minutes."

Said Mr.Keen.
