CHAPTER 13
"Love means never having to say you're sorry."
-Erich Segal
I was doing my homework while mom and I discussed the party and Logan was watching YouTube videos on workouts, like that'd instantly give him muscles.
"Honey, it's a family trip, we're supposed to go together, it's sort of the point." Mom explained, putting down her book.
"I know mom, but this party, it's big. And Eric invited me as his date. His date!" I argued, twirling my pencil in my hand.
"If he's making such a big deal about taking you as his date and making you feel special he chose you, it's a sign he's a jerk, Scarlett." Logan interrupted and I rolled my eyes. Since when did he become a relationship guru?
"Your father barely gets time off work, we only get a few chances in the year to have family time you know."
"And I'll come next time, I promise. You guys go without me."
"You're being stupid Scarlett." Logan walked by me, smacking the side of my head. "Don't be stupid, be me."
"Shut up Logan, this is serious." I scold.
"Oh yeah, it is. Scarlett goody two shoes, ditches her family for a brainless twat." He said in a news anchor voice.
"Mom!" I whined, crossing my arms.
"Scarlett, I'm leaving it up to you. I understand if you want to go, but we spent a long time preparing for this trip." Mom put a hand on my shoulder and gave me a kiss on the forehead, then picked up her book and went back to reading.
The decision was made for me, I'd be going to this party.

Eric wouldn't let go of me. With all my strength I threw a punch at his face, and ran in to one of the stalls locking it.
Eric cursed, banging the door. "Open up Scarlett." He said calmly.
"Leave me alone Eric." Eric kicked over and over at the door. I backed up to the wall, burying my hands in my face. I could hear the music going on outside over my ragged breaths. The door of the stall flew open, barely missing my face, and I knew there was nothing stopping him now. I could feel my head getting lighter, I felt like throwing up. Eric approached me with a bloody nose.
Nice punch Scarlett, Logan would be so proud.
Not the time.
Suddenly I heard someone calling my name and I snapped out of my chaotic state, "EVANS!" I called out. Eric looked irritated but fearful, he grabbed out and put a hand over my mouth and put a finger to his mouth.
Then we heard the banging and saw the door rattling. Eric looked around for an escape, then cursed. "You bitch. You called him here didn't you? Always ruining shit up."
The door flew open, hitting the wall and there stood Evans. His expression became hard, and his fists clenched. I elbowed Eric as hard as I could and he grunted in pain. I moved away from him and held on to the sinks for support, rubbing my sore mouth from Eric's grip.
Evans barreled himself on to Eric throwing punches at him everywhere and Eric retaliated. I stood there, frozen. My brain told me to run, but I couldn't.
Eric stopped and spat on the floor, panting, he smiled a bloody smile, an evil one. "Why are you defending this whore Alexander?" He chuckled and shakes his head, "I should've known, you were always like a lovesick puppy for her and we all know you hated it when I got her first."
"Shut up!" Evans growled and pushed Eric in to a wall grabbing his neck.
"Evans stop!" I scream. I could see Eric's face go red and his veins started to pop out. "EVANS!"
I ran over to him and gripped his shoulder, "Alex, please." I say desperately, Eric's eyes start rolling up.
Instantly, Evans loosens his grip on Eric's neck. He looks over to me, then punches Eric in the stomach once more and grabs my hand pulling me out. I turned back and saw Eric wheezing on the floor as we push through the spectators walking away from the scene.

Evans opened the door of his car for me, I slipped in without a word and he closed it, a little too hard. My mind was still trying to wrap around what had happened, I kept flexing my hands trying to calm my nerves.
Evans got in the driver's seat and stared straight out at nothing for a minute, in that minute my insides were jumping like crazy. I mean, he looked angry and it could most possibly be because of me.
"Alex?" I called out, and his eyes flicked open, the green glinting in the dim lighting of the night. He looked at me, his eyebrows furrowed and his lips turned slightly downwards.
"Are you hurt? Did he do anything?" He asked with a low voice, almost whispering.
"No he didn't, you arrived just in time." I assured him, I was calming down slowly.
"I am so, so sorry Scar, I thought you'd be with Zoey and-" He said in a frantic voice.
"It's okay Alex, it's not your fault. I'm fine I promise." I assure him.
"Do you... do you want to go home?"
"No." I said instantly, and Evans gave me a worried look. "I mean could we go anywhere else, I don't want to go home right now."
He just nodded, and turned the ignition on. We rode in silence for a while, and I tried to forget about what'd happened, to give myself a little rest. I tried to push all the thoughts in my mind.
"What exactly happened with you two last year?" Alex interrupted my thoughtless moment.
I sighed, "Remember the party where all the drama went down?" He nodded slightly. "Eric got drunk and he just changed in to another person. Or more like he became his true self, he wanted more from me, I wasn't ready. Let's just say he didn't like the idea of rejection."
"He didn't-"
"No. We were in one of the rooms when he attacked me, I hit him with a lamp over the head and ran."
"I didn't know..."
"Yeah. When I got back to school two weeks later, he'd already told people he dumped me because I'd cheated on him like three times which was frickin' impossible, we only dated for like two weeks. It was so his reputation wasn't tarnished."
"Why didn't you say anything to anyone?"
"I wasn't in the best state Alex, and his parents sponsor the soccer team, he's popular and he's got people willing to support him, it was my word against his. Plus with my family I just didn't have ...."
"What about your family?"
I smiled at him, "Some other day, maybe." I changed the topic, talking about Eric was giving me a headache. "Where are we going?"
"My house. Netflix and Chill?" I raised my eyebrow at him and he just laughed.
