You browse silently through the stores, the smell of food causing your stomach to growl. You can't seem to find anything that Ed or Al or the girl would like — you looked through clothes shops, decor shops, charm shops, party supply shops, and probably a million others.
The soft jingle of music is barely audible as you ruffle through the boring variety of books — history, the future, science, Albert Einstein, the recent war, and others —, finding nothing interesting, or nothing interesting as far as you could tell. The shop you're currently in is dimly lit, the walls stucco and ground wooden, giving an outdoorsy feeling. The candles are spread out across the room, and there's a 🔥 burning in the corner, where there were no wooden bookshelves or floors to burn.
You sigh as you put the book back onto the shelf. It is no use... you'd never find anything good.
You walk out of the shop, greeted by the cold winter air. You shiver a bit, but continue walking down the street. You enter an interesting-looking shop, hoping that it would offer something decent.
The shop sells charms and bracelets, and other similar items. You groan.
"Not another one of these."
There's no one in the shop except for the reading shopkeeper, who barely glances at you as you push open the door. You walk in quietly.
There are many tables, all in a pretty array, that all hold different things: charms, bracelets, rings, necklaces, and others.
You go to the charms section, feeling like that would hold something Ed would like. Or Al. Or the girl, for that matter.
There are many pretty objects in many different colors, shapes, and sizes.
There are silver ones, golden ones, black and matte black ones, and so many others. You smile.
Something catches your eye. You know immediately that it's something Ed would want, and you feel a... connection between the two. It is hard to explain.
The charm is silver and about as big as a big button. It's a cross with a snake curling around it, and a small pair of wings on the very top. The ornament is connected to a long chain, probably used for a necklace.
You felt instantly the connection, in an inexplicable way, and knew that you had to buy it. So you did.
The receptionist looks at you in awe, as someone was actually buying something. You just grin, ask for it to be wrapped up, and skip out of the shop, humming and holding a small green and red wrapped plaid box. It even came with a To and From sticker.
Now that Ed's gift was done, your happy spirits are dampened when you remember that Al and Ed needed gifts too.
Not worrying so much anymore (for some odd reason), you quickly glance through the remaining shops. You walk in on another book store. Looking around and letting the musty smell fill your nose, you see a big, huge, thick book titles 'Alchemy'. You raise your eyebrow,
You quickly pick up the heavy load and flip through it. It talked all about how alchemy was developed and howpeople worked to get the Philosopher's Stone. You smile at the alchemist's silliness, it was funny that they tried to make a Philosopher's Stone out of pee.
Flipping towards the end of the book, you suddenly realize that the text is upside down. You look at the cover again, making sure the book is right side up —and it is —, but the text is still upside down. You turn the book over and look at the back cover of the book. You see a picture of Albert Einstein. The cover is upside down, labeled "Albert Einstein." You realize that it's a double book, half of it about alchemy and the other half about Albert Einstein and his discoveries.
You smile and know that Al would love the book. He must be bored lying in his bed every single day anyways, you think.
So you go to check out the book. The book is very heavy as you try to lift it off it's shelf. It weighs you down, but you manage drag it to the front counter.
You buy it and quickly walk out of the book store, knowing that you didn't have a lot of time left to buy the girl a gift. The first shop that catches your eye is a colorful candy shop. So you decide to go inside and browse.
The store is very colorful on the inside, sporting all seven colors of the rainbow and pink. The walls are painted with unicorns and pegasi are you look around. There are boxes and boxes of candies riding the wall. There are many varieties, ranging from sour to sweet to bitter. Who would like favorite candies, you didn't know.
You look around and look for the sweetest and sourest candies, grabbing a bit of each. You wanted some for yourself too, but you know that you shouldn't do that. After checking out an arm full of candies, you stuff them all into a plastic bag and walk out of the candy shop merrily. You had finished getting everyone their gifts. Now it is time to enjoy yourself.
You walk along the food section, food being your favorite thing. You find yourself submerged in many scents, making your mouth water.
There is hot chocolate and marshmallows, candy canes, peppermint crumble pies, cinnamon cake, apple pie, and so many more others. You can't decide which one to choose and eat. You decide to get hot chocolate (if you like it) and (favorite sweet/dessert).
Holding the warm cup of hot chocolate against your hands sipping it and nibbling on the (sweet/dessert), you head back towards the hotel with the two gift bags, one containing the huge double sided box, and the other containing the charm and the bag of sweets.
As you leave the warmth and singing of the street, the atmosphere grows eerily silent. It has stopped snowing, and you can still see the mess and the snowman that you and Ed had made on the street. You smile a bit at the memory and start to head back to the warmth of your hotel room.
The hotel blasts you with warm, heated air when you come in. You step right in elevator, click the button that indicated that the elevator would be going to 19th floor and wait for the elevator to ascend.
When you finally reach your suite, you step inside to find a beautifully decorated Christmas tree that had somehow appeared. You stuff the gifts under the tree and go to your room. You can hear the shower running, and you decide to take a shower for yourself.
You can't wait to see everyone's reaction to your gifts.
