Hailey's POV

She suppressed a growl as strange wolves began to surround the clearing. Cinder stepped backward, laying his ears flat against his head, and Jasmine stared blankly at Deadlox in confusion. However, Hailey could see Nikki holding in her rage desperately.

Come on, Nikki! she thought. Give Deadlox a break, he's new to this whole being-a-wolf thing. However, Hailey couldn't help but be slightly annoyed at the brown wolf too. They already had enough problems as is. Why did he have to be so careless?

Deadlox shrunk back, tucking his tail between his legs instinctively. He shrunk down until his belly fur brushed the ground.

"You're trespassing on the Moonlight Pack's territory!" a silver she-wolf growled at him. "Come with us, or fight. You're outnumbered." The strange pack began to growl and press in closer.

Deadlox turned around and looked helplessly at his companions. Cinder lifted a paw in the air and leaned backwards, as if he was unsure of what to do. Jasmine just turned away, and Nikki gave him her death stare as if to say, 'This is your problem.'

Hailey was shocked. None of his companions wanted t help! She would think that Jasmine, at least would be loyal, for she was a member of Dead army. Cinder barely knew them, and Nikki was annoyed. But Jasmine had no reason to hold back.

Hailey looked at the black she wolf, and caught her green gaze, which was full of fear. All of a sudden, she understood Jasmine's reaction. She's afraid to make the first move! She' thinks she'll mess things up even more. She sighed. Looks like it' s up to me.

"Come on guys. Let's go with him," Hailey barked softly. They all turned and looked at her like she was insane.

Cinder was the first to speak up. "But- but we didn't cross the boundary line! Why should we get into something that's not our fault?" he stammered.

"Because he's our friend! Our leader! We should help him!" Hailey barked.

Nikki rolled her eyes. "He doesn't deserve to be our leader if he can't even smell the most obvious territorial markings!" she snarled, directing it at Deadlox.

He cocked his head. "Nikki... why would you say something like that?" he said, the hurt in his voice standing out. He looked at her sadly, then turned and stared at the grass. Nikki ignored him.

Hailey sighed again. "Fine," she said. "If you guys won't come, I'm just going to leave you here." The rusty-colored wolf trotted boldly over the scent boundary, earning a few growls from the pack, and stood next to Deadlox.

"Don't let Nikki get under your fur," Hailey whispered to him. "She gets like this from time to time; it'll pass." Deadlox smiled at her thankfully.

Jasmine looked around, then huffed in annoyance. "You two stay, I'm going over there." She walked over to where Hailey and Deadlox were. Cinder followed, and soon only Nikki was left behind.

"Are you coming or not?" Hailey said, almost with a tone of amusement. Nikki froze for a moment, then groaned.

"Fine, but it's only because he's the leader of Dead Army. No other reason." Nikki strolled over to where they were, and gave her pelt a spiteful shake, flinging a bit of dust on all of them purposely. Hailey rolled her eyes before turning to face the pack.

There were a dozen wolves at least; the silver wolf from the other pack was right. They were outnumbered. There was no logic in fighting them.

Hailey looked around at her friends, who were baring their teeth and growling, preparing to attack. She silenced them with a small bark.

"There's no use in fighting them," she said. "Lets just go with them and see what their alpha is going to do with us."

"But we already have enough problems!" Cinder said. "We need to go back to that weird building. There's probably a way for you guys to become- you know, normal again there."

"Yeah, how will we find our way back?" Jasmine said.

"I don't know, maybe we can follow our scent back here?" Nikki snapped sarcastically. "Let's just get this over with."

Hailey sighed yet again, before turning to face the silver she-wolf. We'll come with you," Hailey said, "but our friend is injured." She gestured to Jasmine with a flick of her tail. "Don't rush us."

The silver wolf smirked. "We won't. Now, follow me."

Hailey followed her, and her friends followed. The rest of the strange pack pressed in close around them, preventing them from escaping.

As they walked, Hailey's mind was swimming with anxiety. Was going with the pack the right decision for her to make? If the pack decided to punish them, all the blame would be on her. But something else was bothering her more. They didn't know if this pack was normally kind or cruel to trespassers. What if they went so far as to execute them? Deadlox was so much more important to some people than they realized.

But somewhere inside her, she knew this would never come to pass. She would fight at the cost of her life to protect the ones she was loyal to, and Deadlox was one of them. She just hoped Nikki, Jasmine and Cinder would do the same.

A/N: Woah, when was the last time I updated? Over a month ago?!?! Please don't kill me guys... I was just... preoccupied.

Okay. I've been procrastinating a LOT lately. I'm really sorry! It's just I have been working on another story for a friend, helping my boyfriend with HIS story, and drawing my little brother and his weirdo-friends some channel art for their Youtube accounts. While ALSO trying to work on a Warrior Cats AMV. Not to mention that we got like a foot of snow here in NY, and I had to shovel out my driveway. Alone. My brother was at his weirdo-friends' house.

I HAVE been busy. It's just that during the few moments of rest I've been getting I usually just go to bed instead of working on this. But here it is! Chapter 35! Sorry it's so short, I promise the next one will be longer! :D Peace out, mah crayzee Minerds!
