Jason's POV
With Ryan's arm around his shoulders, helping to support him in his injured state, Jason followed Sky as he stormed through the undergrowth. They could barely keep up with the Butter God as he ran on ahead, his hand constantly on the hilt of his sword as his need for vengeance gave him a sort of twisted energy.
Sky kept straying off the path they were supposed to be taking, and Jason knew that he would much rather be out there avenging Dawn's death than Deadlox's. But he didn't dare voice his fears out loud. Maybe even Sky himself was unaware of his true desires, and if he realized Jason had noticed them, they might become more of a problem.
So Jason tried to ignore Sky's actions, and simply corrected his path every time his course changed too drastically. Ryan seemed to have noticed also, and kept sighing every time Sky ran too far ahead.
Is Ryan just being impatient, or is he hiding the same feelings? Jason wondered to himself. Jasmine had also been affected by Herobrine's appearance. Maybe Ryan was also feeling a secret need for revenge. But if he was, he was doing a much better job of hiding it than Sky was.
Jason couldn't help but feel lonely as they continued on their hunt for the strange brown wolf who had hurt their friend. If he had had a girlfriend or someone that he loved who was affected in the short battle, would he be more focused on finding her than Deadlox as well?
Sky, Jason and Ryan trudged on in silence as the sun climbed high in the sky and began its descent towards the western horizon. Only then did the weight of what had been happening fall squarely on Jason's shoulders.
Dawn was dead, and Deadlox most likely was too. How many more members of Team Crafted would meet a similar fate?
As those dark thoughts swirled around in Jason's mind relentlessly, the sun began to dip behind the western horizon. The scarlet sunset threw light across the world around them, and the crimson color reminded Jason of the place where Dawn had been killed.
What did Herobrine have against her? Jason thought. Why her? What had she done? Jason desperately searched his mind for an answer, but found none. He felt as though the world he had once known, filled with laughter, friends and happiness, was being ripped away from him, sending him tumbling head over foot into a dark void of bitter nostalgia.
As the sun at last vanished behind the treeline of the forest, Sky abruptly stopped, and Jason repeated the action.
"It's dark out," he muttered, half to himself. "We- we should rest for now."
Jason gently helped Ryan sit down in the soft forest grass, and began to set torches around the area.
"You rest first," he said to Sky. "I'll keep watch for now, and at midnight we'll switch."
Sky set his sword down and removed his helmet, dropping it on the ground with a loud clunk. "Well... okay, if you don't mind," he replied. "But don't wake me up unless the forest is on fire or something."
Jason chuckled and slipped his sword out of its hilt, ready to stand guard for the night. That was a bit more like the old Sky.
As the full moon climbed higher in the sky, Jason scanned the area, keeping watch for danger. A few hostile mobs had approached, but after a few twangs from his bowstring, they were nothing more than a heap of items on the ground. He had always been good at archery. Maybe that was why Sky had made him head of the bow-making department.
The cool night air and the chirps of the crickets soothed Jason's mind, and he leaned against a birch tree and looked upwards at the glittering night sky.
