Chapter 33

Cinder's POV

What were Hailey and Nikki so shocked about? Cinder thought. All she said was her name.

Deadlox came up in front of him, and dismissed Nikki and Hailey with a small but firm bark. "You're Jasmine Soule, right? From the Potions Research lab in the Sky Army base?"

"Yes," she breathed quietly, her eyes still fixed the now walking away she-wolves. "Why were they so surprised when they heard my name? What's going on?"

Cinder could easily ask the same question. What was going on? What were they talking about before- Deadlox becoming a wolf? Wasn't he always a wolf?

Deadlox was still silent. "You would have to ask them," he said to Jasmine before becoming eerily silent.

Cinder began to walk up to Deadlox. He had to ask him what the hell they were talking about, before he dropped dead because of curiosity.

The brown wolf seemed to already know what he was thinking. "You're probably really confused right now, aren't you?" Deadlox said, turning around.

"Yeah," Cinder replied. "What's all this talking about turning into wolves?"

"Well, it's kind of a long story, but I don't know all the parts of it, now that Jasmine showed up. Let's go make peace with the others, and we can tell you it all together." Deadlox turned and began to walk towards his girlfriend, who was now quarreling with Hailey and Jasmine. Cinder caught bits of their fight as he got closer.

"I'm telling you, it's HER!" came Nikki's furious howl.

"How do you know?" Hailey growled in reply. "She could be a spy, sent by Herobrine to get information! Do you remember where we found her? This could all be a trap!"

"GUYS!" Jasmine yelled. "If I was a spy, explain how I knew about Deadlox in the first place?"

Deadlox shook his head warily and walked toward Nikki. He whispered, "Calm them down," in her ear, and she turned furiously on him, her eyes blazing as if they were on fire.

"DON'T YOU SEE THAT'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO DO?" she screamed, and he shrank into a submissive posture. Cinder was completely shocked at her behavior. From the time that he had spent with her, he noticed that she was normally very patient with Deadlox. Cinder began to fear that everyone would simply melt from the heat of her anger.

Hailey and Jasmine stopped fighting, and everyone stared at them. It was unusual for the two wolves to fight, since they were so deeply in love. Nikki began to sink back into her normal position, the flames of her anger extinguishing.

"Sorry," she whimpered. "I tend to get really angry in crazy or just plain stressful situations..."

Deadlox replied by standing up and giving her an affectionate nuzzle. "It's okay. I already love it, because it's part of you. And I love you." He smiled and continued. "Besides, it seemed to get their attention."

All heads now turned to Jasmine and Hailey. At last, Cinder thought to himself. Finally I can find out what the hell is going on.

 "Well, you explain how we know it's the real her," Hailey said, directing it towards Deadlox.

"Jasmine, at what coordinates is the main entrance to the Sky Army base located?" Deadlox said calmly.

"Negative 278, 64, 192. I know that by heart," Jasmine replied.

"There. that should be proof enough," Deadlox said.

Nikki walked up to Haliey and gave her a playful bat around her ears. "Told ya so," she said smugly.
