Rishka’s POV

It was… one of them.

She had allowed herself to be carried away by one of the creatures that had invaded her home. One of the horrible creatures that was hunting Deadlox, the ones who killed her Alpha.

What would the pack say if they could see her now? Would she be banished like Cinder for fraternizing with the twoleggeds?

Even in her limp, broken, nearly unconscious state, her mind was very much active. With her vision blurred and senses dulled, it left her energy and space in her brain to think.

She had so many questions- and instead of getting answers, they just kept piling on top of each other, crushing her under the weight of her confusion. Why did Dwinn abandon her? Was Cinder really guilty? Is Deadlox in the right or wrong? Why is Stardust so determined to kill him? Who was this mysterious twolegged?

And why hadn’t it killed her?

Fighting back wasn’t an option. If she so much as shifted her paw, pain took over her body. She wouldn’t be able to defend, or probably even lift herself from the ground without collapsing.

Her only option was to wait.

Jason’s POV

The spacesuit-clad warrior stared straight ahead, a surprisingly forced poker face eminent across his mouth. He was trying not to think, or get distracted in the least. He was carrying an injured, bleeding animal with at most a few hours of life left. And Seto’s home was still miles away.

So he paced along quickly, carrying the white wolf on it’s back with it’s paws pointed at the sky. Every time his foot hit the ground, it’s lifeless tail would swish back and forth monotonously.

His jetpack was out of gas, and night was falling. His arms were occupied, so he couldn’t fight back if he was attacked. Completely vulnerable, he rushed through the forest as fast as his aching legs could take him.

He tried desperately not to feel anything as he walked. Jason knew the more he worried, the longer it would take him to get there. Still, hopelessness and fear were threatening to take over him.

Why not just leave the wolf here? What do I have to lose?

That’s right… It means nothing to me. If I leave it, I can save myself. I have no reason to save it.

Jason stopped quickly. Should he leave the animal here? Why did he even save it in the first place?

Besides, he had a more important task at hand- avenging his friend, Deadlox.

He needed to do what was most important first.

Jason looked around, and found a large tree with roots that formed sort of a nest shape. He nestled the wolf in the position he thought it would be most comfortable, in hope that it might have a peaceful death. Taking one last look at the creature, he turned away and took off.

Rishka’s POV

She opened her eyes to pale moonlight. How long had she slept? Where was she? Only after a few moments did she realize she was no longer moving.

As she struggled to open her eyes, she heard the gentle cooing of an owl in the treetops. There was no sign of the twolegged.

Rishka was unsure how to react. Was she safer here, or with that creature? She didn’t know, and probably never would.

Just add that to the endless list of things I haven’t figured out yet.

She knew she couldn’t live much longer. Hungry, cold and injured, this would probably be her last night.

So this is it, she thought. I’m just going to lay here until I’m gone, without ever finding a single answer to any of my questions.

What kind of half life did I live? Is anyone even thinking about me?

Hailey, my friend, I hope you’re alive…

And Nikki, please keep her safe.

Dwinn, I don’t understand why you left me. But... for some reason, I’m glad I found out you did.

Cinder, who, what, and where are you? Are you a friend or enemy? I guess I’ll never know.

Shadow, sister, I will meet you soon. Maybe you can help me find answers.

Stardust. I hope you burn in the Nether, you poor excuse for a wolf.

Pack members- please, stay together. And trust each other.

Deadlox, why are you here? Where did you come from? What is your story? I wish I could’ve asked these questions earlier. Even if you tried to kill our pack, you deserve Nikki more than Stardust. I have faith in you.

And lastly, strange twolegged that didn’t kill me- what are you thinking now? When did you leave? I wonder why you let me live. But It doesn’t matter anymore. I’m dying right now anyway…

A single tear ran across Rishka’s bloodstained muzzle.

She was fading fast. She looked up at the full moon, which was slowly growing dimmer as she slipped away.

What am I doing?!

No. Rishka was not the kind of wolf to bow down and go without a word. She would fight forever, no matter how much it hurt.

Whimpering, the white wolf somehow managed to drag herself out from under the tree. The moon shone directly down on her now, illuminating everything around her.

Rishka slowly got to her feet. Tilting her head up, she erupted into a strong, loud howl that seemed like it came from another wolf entirely.

It echoed around the forest, bent around the trees and rung through the air until it reached a small dug out hole in the ground. A trapdoor was flung open, and a human with a purple and gray outfit emerged.

“I know… what that is,” he muttered to himself, before vanishing with a small flash.

Rishka’s breath ran out. Her throat seized up, and she fell to the ground with a loud thud.
