Dwight's POV

Dwight rolled up the map on the floor and picked it up in his mouth, stowing it away off to the side. Deadlox was explaining a few things to Hailey, Nikki and Jasmine. Strangely, however, Cinder seemed to be missing.

"Wait, so Herobrine once had the power to kill anyone?" he overheard Nikki exclaim. "Well, thank Notch the Amulet is hidden here."

Dwight ignored their conversation and put his nose to the air, sniffing a few times. Pushing through the curtain of vines with his long wolf snout, he saw Cinder huddled alone in the shadow of an overhanging wall of stone.

"Hey," he introduced softly. Cinder lifted his head slightly but didn't reply.

"What are you doing out here?" Dwight pushed, sitting next to the dark gray wolf. "Your friends are inside. Why don't you join them?"

"It's hard, being around them now," Cinder said. "You 'humans.' Your whole... everything... is just... weird. I just can't relate to you guys."

"I know," Dwight replied. "I remember my first week as a wolf... this pack found me, but I had no idea how to... be a wolf. All that I knew was foreign and human."

"Yeah. Sounds familiar," Cinder said.

"But just look at me now- I'm the Alpha!" Dwight said. "You gotta at least try to relate. Eventually you'll learn."

"But being a wolf is simple," Cinder said. "You follow orders, stay in your own territory and remain loyal. But... humans? It's all 'building' and 'crafting' and 'mining' and things I just don't understand. And I don't think I ever will."

"That's funny," Dwight replied. "Because I always thought wolves were complicated. How do you understand smells? And Alphas, Betas, Omegas, Lunas, all these different social classes. I understand now, but back then? I was more confused than I had ever been.

"Try to understand. Ask questions. Pay attention to their conversations instead of hiding alone, awkwardly avoiding them. That's how I became Alpha, after all."

Cinder gave a weak smile before nodding. "Well, I guess I'm not much use out here," he said before following Dwight back into the room.
