Jason's POV
They were walking along the edge of the same forest they had left not too long ago. It pained him to return to the place where they had found Deadlox's headset. They had come so close to finding him, and now they had more people to help in the search.
They walked for a bit, and then as dusk fell once again, they began to set up their temporary shelter. Jason watched as Dawn put in the windows and as Sky started a fire. But the two recruits, Jasmine and Ryan, were nowhere to be seen. He began to place the torches for lighting in a circle around the house to prevent mob spawning, and he looked into the trees. A skeleton spawned twenty blocks away from him, so he finished quickly and went inside. But no sooner than he did he heard a distant scream from outside.
Him, Dawn and Sky ran outside to see what it was. Ryan came into sight and made urgent motions for them to come. They began to run to him, and he led them a bit into the forest. Then they came into a small clearing, and a dead spider jockey was laying on the ground a few feet away from Jasmine. She was leaning against a tree, holding her left arm loosely with her right hand. Sky, Dawn, Jason and Ryan rushed to her side and helped her get up. There was an arrow in her left shoulder, and a small patch of blood was already surrounding it.
"Ryan- you killed the jockey?" Sky asked as they helped Jasmine back to the house.
"Y- yeah, but is she going to be okay?" Ryan said nervously.
"She should be, let's get her to the temporary house."
They led her in through the front door, and Dawn helped her onto a small bed. Ryan sat next to her and helped to remove the arrow. He bandaged her arm and smiled weakly at her. She didn't return it, but merely said "Thanks."
"We shouldn't have taken you two," Sky said with a shake of his head.
"What are you talking about?" Jasmine protested, "I'll be fine by morning."
"Whatever you say, but I think you two should start to head back to the base tomorrow."
"Sky, no, we started this search together, and that's how we're going to finish it."
Sky and everyone left her to rest, and they eventually fell asleep in the small beds.
(the next morning)
Jason woke everyone up except for Jasmine, who was still asleep. They ate some of the bread they had taken along, woke up Jasmine, and took the house down. Sure enough, as she had said, Jasmine's arm was still wounded, but she was well enough to do all the things she could do before.
They started to walk again, and at about noon Dawn signaled for them to stop. Jason walked up to her and nodded. They both recognized this tree, because it was the one they had rested under minutes before they found the headset.
"Sky," Jason said, walking to a spot in the grass, "This is where we found it."
"Okay, so we know that some sort of fight or struggle must have occurred here, he wouldn't have just left his headset. Search around for any indication of where he went or what happened to him," Sky commanded.
They followed his orders, and everyone began to look for signs of whatever had happened to him. Sky went over to the small body of water that was nearby, and was promptly disgusted to find squids swimming in it. He killed them and interrogated one of them, but they hadn't kidnapped Deadlox. Dawn went to search in the bushes nearby for any broken branches, but she found none. Ryan and Jasmine went in two different directions to widen their search range, and Jason went to help Dawn.
As he looked at the trees, he saw the mouth of a cave in the distance. He walked towards it cautiously, unsure of what might come out of it. As he looked in, he didn't see anything. But as he turned away, he saw something unusual- their was a pair of footprints, a pair of pawprints, some dark brown fur on the floor, and a small amount of blood on the floor near the entrance.
Jason called to the others, and Sky listened closely as he showed him what he found. He nodded and came a little into the cave to get a closer look, and then finally he stood up. He looked at them all, and then began to explain his theory.
"It had to be a wolf. This cave probably connects to the cave we were in, and when he came out a brown wolf attacked him. But what I don't understand is......." His voice trailed off.
"What I don't understand is that he was well armed, and one wolf couldn't have taken him down. And it also doesn't explain why his headset was over there."
"Yes it does," said Dawn, "Look closely. There are more footprints!"
They followed the footprints right to where his headset used to lay. This was the answer.
"Well, there's only one thing to do," Jason said. "We need to follow the footprints and see where the wolf took him. And If he's dead, well, we need to avenge him and kill the animal that did it."
So they all followed Sky, who led them through the forest after the pawprints.
