"The reason why I don't want you to leave is... I'm in love with you."
I gasp, shocked. Jay is in love with me? This is not good.
"J-Jay...." I trail off, but he pulls me close.
Suddenly, the realization hits me that I could help him out of his depression. So, when he tilts my head up towards his own, and stares at my lips, I close the gap.
~
"Where were you?" Lachlan asks as I enter the house."At Jay's. We decided to have a movie night." I respond. It was true. After our kiss, we decided to uncomfortably watch Netflix together. My thoughts trail off to the kiss.
It... It just felt so wrong.
But I had to do it. I can't bare to lose him. He's like my brother and if anything happens to him, it happens to me too.
"How was your date?" I ask Lachlan, snapping out of my thoughts and sitting next to him on the couch.
Lachlan looks at me, then finds the words to say. "W-we.... I-I.... Well...I broke up with Cassidy."
My eyes widen in surprise and it takes all my effort not to burst out with questions, specifically, 'why?' My heart slowly feels like it is mending. There is hope.
"I'm sorry, Lachlan." I reply.
"There's no need to be sorry, it was her, not you."
"But I was part of the reason why you broke up. If you didn't follow me, you would've never heard the things she said about me and your relationship would've been okay." I respond, moving slightly closer to him.
"I'm glad I heard those things though. If I didn't I wouldn't have known how she feels about you. If she or anyone else has a problem with you, then they can all fuck off." He responds, looking into my eyes.
"Thanks, Lachy." I smile, blushing as I rest my head on his chest and wrap my arms around his torso.
"Of course. You're my absolute bestest best friend ever." He responds, and I feel his lips kiss the top of my head, making me feel slightly guilty.
I should tell him....
~
I slowly stand up and tiptoe past a sleeping Lachlan. I pick up my phone and decide to call Jake."Yo." He casually says over the line, causing me to mentally relax.
"Hey, Jay."
"What're you doing, calling this early in the morning?" He tiredly asks.
"I just wanted to make sure you were alright." I truthfully respond.
"I am now, thanks to your beautiful voice." He complements, causing me to smile.
"Don't get so cheesy with the complements, now." I respond, stretching my arms in front of me.
"Alright. I'll get cheesy. Babe, sweetheart, and uh, whatever comes after that." He says, causing me to giggle.
"You're not really one for the romance department, huh?" I joke, but suddenly remember Allie. "Wait, no, I didn't mean that." I add as the line goes silent for a second.
"I know. You were just making a joke; you're too nice to actually mean something." He says, causing me to mentally sigh in relief once again. "But hey, while I have you on the line, wanna go on a date Sunday?" He asks, causing me to smile.
"Sure; I'd love to, Jay."
"Haha see I am a pro at the romance department, might as well call me the manager." He sarcastically says, causing me to giggle.
~
The next two days went by agonizingly slowly; with Lachlan recording all the time and not a message from anybody, I've been lonely. That is, until Sunday rolled around.
The doorbell rings. "I got it!" I yell, finishing putting on some red lipstick and admiring my outfit choice. I am wearing a black miniskirt with a gold long sleeved top and some black flats. My hair is curled and I have mascara on.
I hustle down the stairs and open it, to see none other than Jay standing there in some black jeans and a white top. His glasses are gone and his brown hair is in its usual side part. "Ready?" He asks, holding a hand out.
"Yep-"
"Where are you going, Cait?" Lachlan comes out of nowhere, and I immediately put my hand back to my side, looking back at him.
"Jay and I were just going to hang out." I respond, glancing at Jay who nods in agreement.
I turn back to Lachlan and notice a flicker of something flash through his eyes, but as soon as I notice it it goes away. "Alright, have fun." He says, unenthusiastically.
"Bye." I respond as I turn back to Jake, who puts a hand out for me once again. I accept it, the whole time feeling Lachlan's stare on my back. My heart starts to ache but I ignore it, knowing that tonight it is just me and Jay.
"Here we are." He says, opening the door for me. He's such a gentleman.
"Thank you." I reply, stepping inside as he lets go of my hand and closes the door. "Where to?" I ask as he enters the car on the drivers side.
"You'll see." He says, focusing on the road as we drive off.
"Can't you give me a hint?" I ask him, slightly pouting.
After a moments' silence, he replies, "It's a place where I go to relieve my stress."
Where could that be?
After a few minutes of guessing he stops at a light. "Here. Put this on." He says, handing me a bandana.
"Really?" I ask, looking at it.
"Yes. It's a surprise, remember?" He says, and I nod, sighing. I wrap the bandana around my face and make sure it covers my eyes. We start driving and stop again after a little bit. "We're here. I'll lead you around." He says, getting out of the car. My side opens, and I feel a hand grab my own. "Come on." He says, leading me out of the car.
"Alright, I'm trusting you." I smile as he guides me around. After a minute or two, we stop. "Are we here?" I ask.
"Yep." He says, taking the blindfold off.
I adjust to the brightness and slightly smile. "An arcade?"
"Yep; you know it!" He smiles back, grabbing my right hand.
"I always knew you were childish." I respond as he holds the door open for me.
"Who says being childish isn't good?" He replies as we step inside and get some coins. After that, we play against each other on multiple games; my favorite was the motorcycle one.
"Thanks Jay, that was really cute." I say after a good few hours of fun.
"Yeah, I'm glad you liked it." He responds, smiling. We walk out to the car, the whole time holding hands. He opens the door for me, the gentleman he is, and I get in.
And, soon enough, we are outside my place.
"Thanks for the night, Jay." I smile, giving him a peck on the cheek. But Jay, being Jay, turns my head so our lips meet.
No spark.
"Alright. See ya." He responds, and I slightly shake my head in amusement, getting out of the car and walking inside.
