I stood in front of the mirror and gazed at the beautiful white dress adorning my body. It was fitted at the bodice and flared out past the hips.
"It looks beautiful," Jennifer whispered, going up to me and wrapping her arm around me.
"You think so?" I asked quietly, my hands running through the smooth material of the gown.
"It's perfect," Natalie agreed, coming up next to us and gazing at my reflection in the mirror.
It was the day before the wedding and I was trying the dress on for the final time to make sure everything was perfect. Jennifer, Natalie, Brendon, Jack and Tyler all decided to go to my apartment so they could see it before anyone else.
"I still don't get why Josh couldn't come over too," Jack huffed from the couch behind us.
"You didn't have to come either," Jennifer shot back, "and besides, it's bad luck."
"Bad luck my forehead," Brendon snorted. I giggled and rolled my eyes.
"I'm not trying to risk it," I told him as I turned to look at the dress from another angle.
"What could possibly go wrong?" Tyler asked jokingly.
"Don't say that! The universe might take that as a challenge," Natalie said warningly.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door.
"Are you done yet? I'm hungry," Josh called from the other side of the door.
"No!" Jennifer, Natalie and I shouted in unison.
"Oh come on, let him in. What's the worst thing that could happen?" Jack said with a shrug as he walked to the door.
I gasped and ran to my room, terrified Josh would see me. It wasn't necessarily because I believed in the bad luck, but more so because I wanted the first time he saw it to be when I walked down the aisle. Jennifer was close behind me and slammed the door shut after her.
"I need to get out of this thing," I muttered, my heart pounding in my chest.
I turned in place so Jennifer could undo my zipper when I felt a slight tug. Jennifer looked down and saw the dress got caught on the nightstand drawer and tried to pull it loose.
"It's really freaking on there," she said, her brows furrowed in concentration as she continued to try and free me.
"Just be careful-" the words had no sooner left my mouth when I heard the sound of ripping fabric.
I looked down in horror and saw that Jennifer managed to free the dress, but now there was a three inch split at the hem.
"I...am...so....sorry," she whispered, her eyes glued to the torn fabric.
"Let's get this off of me and try to figure out how we're going to fix this," I said quickly, my mind trying to use logic instead of screaming my head off like I wanted to.
She unzipped me and I threw on some jeans and a t-shirt, my head buzzing with emotion.
Jennifer took the dress and hid it from view, in case Josh decided to come into my room. It was pretty much bare with the exception of my bed and nightstand, since after the honeymoon I would officially be moving in with him. There was really no point in paying for two separate apartments, especially since we would be gone for quite a while.
"You think it's too late to take it to a tailor?" Jennifer asked me hopefully.
I pulled out my phone to check the time. "Its five o'clock already, there's no way they'll get it fixed in time," I said sadly.
