Steve, as expected, ended up driving Stark to the airport as he endlessly talked on their way. Natasha was sitting on the backseat watching and laughing at the boys' conversation.
The airport was always a busy place, people roaming around here and there, dragging their suitcases behind them. As they bid their goodbyes to Tony, a man approached Steve and started a conversation.
After the man left Natasha inched closer and nudged him with her shoulder, "funny how you always meet people you know in the airport, huh?"
"What? Oh that was nobody, he asked for directions, a tourist I think."
"No dummy, I'm referring to blonde and beautiful over there," she said in a hushed tone, nudging her head towards said person.
"Blonde and beau-" he asked as he whisked his head to her pointed direction and recognize this 'blonde' she's referring. In an instant, just like a reflex, he spun himself and started to walk away.
"Hey, hey! You are not going away!" Nat told him as she grabbed him still.
"No, Nat. How am I supposed to move on if I keep seeing her like this? Especially if she's with that Mr. Perfect whoever the uff that is."
"That's my point. You should be the one to say 'hi'. So she'll know that you're completely fine and going along with life all completely fine."
"But-"
"Nuh-uh. Man up," she said as she shushed him and patted his arms.
"Romanoff, you are one badluck for me," he said as he sighed.
"So I've heard. Come on go, prove her Steve," she said with an encouraging smile wide on her face.
His steps were hesitant, heck, he was wholly hesitant. Should he actually come and say 'hi' to her? Should he actually risk the pain of seeing her again? Should he actually risk himself to look like a total idiot in front of her? Let's just get this over with.
She was looking up at the flight information schedule, narrowing her eyes, furrowing her brows.
"Sharon," he croaked, gosh he sounded terrible. She looked away at the board and noticed him. Their height was slightly the same, which made him instantaneously make eye contact with her.
"Oh, hi Steve," she said with a pearl white smile, but he could see she felt kinda awkward, "what are you doing here?"
"I was just taking Tony to the airport, you?"
"I'm picking James up, he's scheduled to be here now but delays, I guess."
"Ohh," right of course. She was there for James, no doubt.
"Where's your girl?"
"My girl?"
"Natasha."
"Oh, she's not. She's just a friend actually," he gave her a smile. Then awkward silence came between them.
"Uh, you know I probably gonna need to find James. See you later, Steve," she said as she waved at him.
Natasha jogged towards him and gave him another nudge,"so, how did it go? Good?"
"Perfectly well, that wasn't awkward or weird at all," he said and gave her a sarcastic smile.
"Aw come on, that isn't bad."
"She's coming here to pick Mr. Perfect up. So yes tell me that isn't bad. Last I checked, she wouldn't even want to pick me up when my car broke down. Yes, I'm fine," he said.
"No way," she gasped,"she did that? If I were you I'd reconsider my relationship right that instance."
"You don't understand Nat, she loved me and so do I. Even I still feel a tiny hint of it right now," he sighed and lifted his hands,"I don't know what to do."
"You'll be fine, Steve," she tried to assure him as she stepped closer and pat his arms,"there are many more people who care for you more than she does, I'm sure."
"Like you?" He asked as he glanced down to meet her eyes. His eyes gleamed in hope. She was silent and still, not able to decide to lie or to say the truth.
"You know what? It doesn't matter. I know this sounds crazy, we just met, you're doing your job, life is illogical, but I need you to know that I care for you, Natasha. At first I thought you were that kind of journalist who'll write just for the sake of money, you, you write to get to know people. In just few days, I get to know so much about you and the same way around. I care for you I truly do," he said staring right through her eyes.
"I know this sounds even crazier, but I care for you too."
