Chapter 58 – UNAPOLOGETIC (Ansel Conrad POV) pt.1

I've met many a spiteful people. Those that for whatever reason whether it is out of pleasure or personal misery that one felt needed to be dished towards others passive-aggressively. Kicking someone when they're already down.

However that was not my style – I didn't have the vindictiveness needed to be that person.

I frown. "You sent Brennan down to deliver Devin's meal?"

Antone nods once sharply. "It had to be done-"

"And did it?"

Antone smirks. "It was not about anything more than showing Devin her new reality Ansel. Brennan aided her once; Devin needed to be aware of the severity of her situation. She might never once feel remorse for those people that died, but I'd like to believe that she has potential."

I respected my elders. Not the Elders. No those group of people chosen were monsters that inflicted pain on people that they were sought out to help. I meant elders like Antone. However right now, I wasn't sure how long I could successfully manage to keep the chuckles inside demanding to be let free.

But potential?

"Ansel she was in a toxic family, but when I look at her," he shakes his head. "I cannot give up on her just yet."

Inhaling, I hold it in turning Antone's words over before exhaling, the worry creeping up my neck, remaining there.

"What's wrong?" Antone says when I continue to stare forward, mind clearly elsewhere. "Do we have trouble coming our way?" he leans forward.

Coming our way? Was he serious? Trouble was currently in our cellar starving her self and he thought she had potential? To do what? Pretend like Taylor had?

But for his sake I focused on his question the way I believe he meant for it to be responded too.

"Taylor is with a woman, they've traveled and stopped in places where you have and Angela and I cannot for the life of me figure out how? If her stops are coincidences and-" I run a hand through my hair roughly, pulling the edges in building frustration.

"How many locations have been parallel?"

My eyes roll, not out of rudeness but by the number of comparable stops Taylor has made, the fact that we couldn't place her car and the frustration of not being able to find who or what is cluing her in.

"She stopped in Las Cruces, New Mexico a few hours ago."

Antone nods. "Before that?"

"She stopped where Devin had in Nevada, then you and the place where Devin said she over heard the two women speaking of."
