savannah's pov
mr. richards walked closer to the stand and locked his hands behind his back, "so, mr. sharman or caleb?".
"caleb's fine" he shrugged, nodding his head slightly.
"well, caleb, you're here today as a supposed witness of the night when mr.preston was attacked. correct?".
caleb looked around room at all the eyes that were on him, before taking a deep breath, "yes".
"and is this against the accusations of mr. jack gilinsky or for?".
"f-for, sir" he surprisingly answered.
"well, can you start by telling me and the judge of what you saw or even heard?".
caleb lightly cleared his throat, "so, it was june 12th, during lunch break at work. i was talking to jack about his break up with his girlfriend—".
"savannah brooks, correct?".
"yes. and-and he kept talking about how this break up was all max's fault and that he should have done something a long time ago" he added.
the attorney creased his brows, "done something?".
"gotten rid of him or at least, gotten him away from savannah" caleb explained. "so, i started joking around, asking what exactly he would do and jack said anything...a-as long as it meant that that bastard didn't exist anymore".
i looked over at the table where jack sat, almost scared to believe he would say such a thing.
but i knew that it was true, since his only reaction was to frustratedly tug his fingers through his hair, then down his face.
if it wasn't, knowing jack, he'd be screaming with denial right now.
"so to your face, mr. gilinsky basically said that he would harm mr. preston, but his main aim was to make sure that he, as i quote, did not exist anymore. i mean, you could almost have this attack listed as attempted murder".
jack hastily rose from his seat, "attempted murder?! are you crazy?!".
"mr. gilinsky" the judge loudly banged her gavel against the table, "mr. gilinsky, sit back down!".
"your honour," jack's attorney stood, taking over the argument. "you can't possibly allow just the words of a man to prove that my client is guilty of assault or even murder".
"no one has said that anyone is guilty yet".
"but, and if i may add," max's attorney spoke up. "no one, except mr gilinsky himself can confirm his whereabouts that night and i have not yet heard him even try to deny saying any of the words that caleb just repeated".
mr. garland shamefully sat himself back down, allowing max's attorney to turn back to caleb, "is that all mr. sharman?".
caleb nodded his head and stood, "yes, sir".
"your honour, i would like to keep mr sharman at the stand if that's okay" mr. garland quickly spoke up, before caleb could move any further.
the judge sighed and folded her arms across her chest, "you may".
jack's attorney smoothed down his neat, suit jacket and walked up to the stand.
"mr. sharman, would you consider you and my client as close friends?" he started, pacing up and down the front of the courtroom.
"i guess so".
mr. garland paused, "it's yes or no, sir".
"yes" caleb repeated.
