2|Chapter Two

ALEXI

I had to be the only person on earth that suffered from this bad luck. First my sister kicked me out of the flat leaving me homeless, and now my car won't start. I tried one last time begging it, but nothing happened. Getting out of the car I kicked the wheel. I instantly regretted it as pain shot up my leg.

"Ah!" I yelled. Grabbing my handbag I locked my car then span around.

I dug around in my purse searching for my phone. My fingers closed around the old device. Unlocking it, I stared at the time for a few seconds before letting out a string of curses. I was going to be late on my first day of work. I felt like crying, but I knew it wouldn't do me any good, so I did the only thing I could. I sucked up my pride and ran.

I ran the three blocks to the bus station only to get there when the bus pulled away from the curb. Yelling and waving my arms at the bus driver did nothing to stop him.He only shook his head pointing to his wrist before driving off into traffic. The streets were full of people hurrying to work. I was suppose to be one of them, but instead I look like a drenched rat, did I mention that it started raining about half way here?

Checking the time again, I almost burst out in tears, I had a minute left. I hitched my handbag higher over my shoulder and took a deep breath. I needed this job badly, so I ran. I kept running, until I reached the skyscraper. When I entered the building my clothes were dripping wet, my hair was sticking to my head, and the little makeup I had on was running down my face. I could feel the stares of the other occupants in the building, but ignored it making my way towards the elevators. I stepped inside muttering under my breath. The doors slid close just in time because two men dressed on security uniforms was running my way. I paced the elevator as I used some tissues, I found in my bag, to clean my face.

The elevator dinged and I stepped out onto the floor I was on yesterday. The desk was empty but the door that stood a few feet away was wide open. My eyes fell on the clock at the bottom of  the computer screen. My heart sank as I saw the time laughing up at me

"You are late Miss White." A loud voice boomed behind me, making me spin around. My bag that was hanging loosely over my shoulder, dropped onto the floor causing everything inside to fall out.

I moved from foot to foot when he glared at me, his were eyes taking in my drenched appearance.

"I-I'm s-sorry,” I mumbled, getting down on my knees to pick up my stuff.

A gasp fell from my lips when a pair of black dress shoes appeared in front of me. He knelt reaching out to help me. He was actually helping me! We picked my stuff up in silence. Then I saw something that made my face heat up and him freeze. There, on the floor, in plain view laid a tampon. I wished the floor could just open up and swallow me into the pit of darkness. Not only was I late and completely drench, I also knocked my bag over and now I have a tampon lying there. Could that get any worse?

"I...uuu-" I quickly grabbing the offensive thing stuffing it into my bag before getting up. He followed, straightening to his full height.

"Go home," he ordered, making my heart sink. "Go home and change into some dry clothes then come back here."

I stood there in shocked silence. I thought he was firing me!

"Uuu..thank you sir," I stuttered. He nodded turning around, but  stopped turning back to face me.

"Wait here." He walked into his office returning a few minutes later with a set of keys.

"Come, I'll drive you," he said, walking to the elevator.

I stared at him for a few minutes before quickly following him. We rode the elevator down to the parking garage where he led me to a sleek black car. He opened the passenger door for me standing back for me to get in. I looked down at the leather seats, wincing as I thought of sitting on them with my wet clothes.
