ALEXI
I stared in fascination at the dark grey clouds moving in the sky. The light blue was almost completely covered by darkness. All around me there was silence, no animal could be heard. It was like they knew there was a storm coming. Sucking in a deep breath of fresh air, I slowly sank down onto my back. Above me the trees loomed. There was a slight parting where I could still watch the dark clouds moving in the sky.
It was probably stupid of me to leave the house alone, but I needed air. Staying cooped up inside the house would've drove me mad, especially after what they told me. For two days I've been avoiding them. Both of them had tried to talk to me. I knew they were hurting. I could see that every time my eyes caught theirs, but they needed to understand how I felt. Thunder crackled through the sky making my eyes snap open. I had drifted off without realizing it. Darkness surrounded me causing panic to fill me. Standing, I turned searching for the way I came. My mind was a jumbled mess making it harder for me to remember. I knew I shouldn't be panicking, that I need to calm down in order to find my way back to the house. The best option would be to stay right where I was. If I started walking in the direction I think I came from I might walk deeper into the forest.
What was I thinking?
Thunder filled my ears followed by a flash of lightning. Sucking in a shaky breath I closed my eyes to try and clear my mind. A twig snapped to my right. Another to my left. Then something appeared from between the trees. It looked human. Tall, broad-shouldered and very muscled. But it wasn't. I could see the outline of large horns on its head. Long fingernails and large feet. A tail whipped behind it as it came to a stop a few feet in front of me.
Glowing golden eyes stared at me with curiosity. A sound fell from its mouth and a few seconds later two more creatures appeared. Dogs stop next to him, not entirely dogs. They had no fur, just angry red skin and red eyes with sharp yellow teeth. Their bodies were also lean and muscled.
"Do not move."
My body jerked in fright as a man spoke from behind me. I could feel his body heat seeping into my back. His smell of cinnamon and apple's entering my nostrils. Who is he?
“I have come for the girl,” the creature in front of me spoke.
His words were slightly slurred but his voice was clear. It echoed around us.
“No,” the man behind me spoke before I could. “This is the wrong girl.”
“She fits the description.”
“But she is not the girl you are looking for. This girl is human.”
“Humans can be condemned to an eternity in hell,” the creature said, his eyes locking with mine.
My heartbeat increased as the hair at the back of my neck rose as fear washed through me.
“I'll see you in hell someday Alexi,” he turned walking back towards the trees. “Nice seeing you again Prince Erik.”
A hand was placed on my arm as a strong arm wrapped around my waist. My body was pressed against a tall hard body with minty breath fanning my cheek.
“I'm going to count to three, then you and I are going to jump.”
