ALEXI

The twins seemed to have disappeared. It felt like they were going out of their way to avoid me. Sure we still spent some together and watched some TV together, but that's about it. I was planning on asking them to tell me more about the mate thing. The curiosity was getting the best of me. I dropped the remote onto the couch then stood and made my way over to the window. The backyard was littered with people, kids and women along with some men. There was a medium-sized playground build the to left and some tables and chairs to the right. Some men where fight off to one side while others stood at the edge of the trees with a gun held against their chest. I could faintly make out pathways leading further into the forest. Biting my lip, I glanced over my shoulder at the door that would give me freedom.

My mind was made up and there was no going back. I stepped into the hall with shaky legs. A wave of uncertainty flashed through me, but I pushed it aside as I pulled the door close. My feet carried me down the stairs and to the second floor. It was filled with halls and different coloured doors with black numbers on it. I found another staircase. Gripping the banister, I slowly made my way downstairs. The closer I got to the first floor the louder the noise became. The staircase led down to a spacious foyer which broke off into two, no three entrances. One led down a hall and the other led into a large living room where a bunch of people was screaming at the TV. The entrance to the left led into a medium-sized room that was filled with sunshine. There were cream couches placed around the room neatly. I could see a few baby toys laying on the thick carpet in the middle. A white crib stood off to one side with a baby chair to the other. My hand moved to my stomach as I thought of being pregnant with the twins babies. Way to soon for that Lexi!

I walked down the hall beneath the staircase. It felt like I was stuck in a maze because of all the different halls that turned off in different directions. My eyes darted around as I tried to decide which way to go.

“Ennie minnie mini mou…,” I muttered under my breath.

My finger ended on the last hall to my left. Shrugging, I walked forward. A wooden floorboard creaked beneath my weight as I stepped further down the hall. The walls were painted a creamy white with different sized photo frames hanging almost everywhere. I studied them silently. There were photos of people I didn't know. Group photos and then of different couples and even some family photos. I stopped in front of a medium-sized photo. A man smirked at the camera. Indigo blue eyes stared mockingly at me. Dark hair was combed back neatly from a handsome face. He was dressed in a pair of slacks and a white button down shirt. I moved on finding the same man standing next to a beautiful woman.  Another picture showed them and the twins smiling at the camera. Moving further down the hall, I studied all the photos with a small smile. A gasp fell from my lips as my eyes fell on the large picture. I had to lock my knees to keep myself from sliding to the floor. Slade and Fury stood smiling at the camera with their arms wrapped around a girl between them.

"You're not suppose to be here Lexi," Fury said.

I jumped, my head snapping to the left. Fury slowly made his way down the hall towards me. His eyes trailed over my body before catching mine. He frowned. I turned back to the photo. If felt like I was staring at myself in the mirror. Only difference was that my hair was shorter and I looked younger.

"Lexi?"

"We've met before?" I questioned.

Turning my head, I stared up at him. Fury walked towards me. Stopping next to me, he turned to look at the picture. I watched his face as different emotions crossed it. He swallowed audibly. Without saying a word, he took hold of my hand and led me a little further down the hall. More photos appeared. Of us, of me with each one of them. And then the last photo was only me. I wasn't smiling at the camera but my eyes were filled with amusement.
