SLADE
"Do you know who send them?"
I shook my head, slowly turning my head to face Max. He was the Alpha of the Blood Moon pack– the second largest pack in London. Our house was build on their territory. It was safer for us to be close to our kind than to be out in the open. We had many enemies because of our title so we needed the protection.
We've know Max for two years. He came to us to ask for protection for his family and a few of his pack members. Their previous pack was attacked by a group of rogues. They had no time to prepare so most of them died. After buying land and building their homes and training grounds, the people decided to choose Max as their Alpha. Now– years later– the pack has grown to almost two thousand members.
Ten men stood silently around the room. Their eyes were focused on the ground as they awaited their orders. I could smell the fear radiating from them. It made satisfaction fill me but only for a few minutes. My mind trailed back to Alexi that was upstairs in one of the spare bedrooms. Her body had healed but she still hasn't woken up yet. I felt the anger in me rise when my eyes fell on my brother. How could he have been so stupid?
“Stop fucking looking at me like that!”
My eyes narrowed as I allowed a low growl to fall from my lips. “If something happens to her it's going to be your fault!”
He laughed. “At least I did something! I didn't stand back to watch her die!”
I charged at him but a body stepped in front of me. Alpha Max held up a hand. He turned his head to look at the men. They quietly walked out leaving only the tree of us in the room.
“Fighting isn't going to solve any of this,” he muttered softly.
He walked back to his oak desk. On top of it laid a map of the lands. Every possible entrance and escaped route had been marked. With one last glance at my brother, I walked towards the desk. My eyes trailed over the map.
“Every entrance and exit were guarded.”
The room fell silent. Fury stood from the couch then made his way over to us. I allowed my eyes to trail over him. He looked paler than usual. I also noticed that he was shaking as he picked up a pen.
“Have you fed yet?”
His eyes snapped to me and then narrowed. “I'm fine.”
“I didn't ask you how you're feeling. I asked you if you've fed yet.”
“Leave me alone Slade,” he snapped.
I watched as he stormed out of the room. The door slammed shut behind him. For a few second only silence surrounded us. I sucked in a deep breath then slowly blew it out before turning to the Alpha.
“I want to go with you when you go for a run.”
“Of course Sire.”
Giving him a stiff nod, I walked out of the office. I stood silently in the hall as I searched the mind-link for my brother. I came up blank which meant that he had blocked me out. Fury wouldn't go far from our mate so he'll be outside or somewhere in the house. I couldn't trace him by scent because there were too many in this house. Although I'm extremely pissed at him for giving Alexi his blood again, I was also worried. It wasn't normal for him not to feed.
