ALEXI

My eyes darted around nervously. I clutched onto Slade's hand as Erik and Roxy entered the bedroom. Slade was awake. He was still weak and had trouble moving around on his own. There was this guilt that clung to me as I thought about what had happened. We had almost lost him because of me.

"How are you feeling?" Erik asked him softly.

"Fine. Just some aches and pains here and there," Slade muttered.

He shifted on the bed then pulled me closer to him. I carefully wrapped my arm around his waist as I buried my face against his neck. I wanted them to leave so I could have the twins all to myself. Don't get me wrong, I was thankful for what they've been doing. They had fought with them and they hand led me to safety. They also opened their house to us, but I just wanted my mates at the moment.

"I'm happy you're awake," Roxanne gave him a small smile. "We'd like to talk to you about something."

"Can this wait?" Fury entered the room looking furious.

He had disappeared this morning after receiving a phonecall. I haven't seen or heard from him all day. I was curious to know what the phonecall was about but I didn't ask.

"Not really," Erik muttered. "Roxy knows what's been happening to your mate. She might have a way to help her remember her past life's. If it works we would be able to figure out who wants her dead."

"That's great. It's been a long day and as much as I want to get this over with, I'm really tired. We also need a good night's rest," Slade said softly.

When Erik and Roxanne left the room, Fury made sure to close the door firmly behind them. Then he walked over to the window and locked it. We watched him silently as he pulled off his jacket and kicked of his shoes. For a few minutes he stared at the wall with his back to us. I could see the tension in his body.

"Fury?"

Slowly he turned around. "I went to the castle."

My eyes widened. How could he go there alone? What if something had happened to him?

"They had planned to poison you Lexi," he whispered.

The next instant he was sitting in front of me on the bed. His hands were clasping mine tightly. Fury was breathing harshly. His eyes were filled with panic and pain.

"Someone had bribed one of the maids to add the poison to your food," Fury sucked in a breath, "that was the plan. They would've killed you without us knowing but it went wrong. Someone pulled out a gun and that's what started the fight."

I couldn't wrap my head around it. I saw that man that had entered the house. Slade had said he wasn't one of his men which confused me even more. If he wasn't the one to start the fight, then what was he doing there?

"Have you spoken to the maid?"

"They found her body this morning."

My stomach rolled. I scrambled off the bed and stumbled into the bathroom. My hands clutched the cold marble as I emptied the contents of my stomach. I dry heaved for a few more minutes before sitting back. I was shaking and sweaty. Fury gently lifted me from the tiled floor. Slade was there to wipe my mouth and hand me some mouth wash. I leaned weakly back against him. I didn't have the strength to do anything now. My body was completely drained.

"Lexi," lips brushed the side of my head. "Are you okay?"

I forced my eyes open. Slade stood in front of me. Fury stood behind me with his arm wrapped around my waist to keep me up. I wanted to be free. The fear was going to drive me insane. It was going to destroy me until I wouldn't be able to function normally. How many more were going to die because of me? How many family would be destroyed because someone wants me dead?
