Jake POV:
Carrying Lily in my arms, I carefully place her on my king sized bed, hoping she wouldn't feel any pain as she lays on the mattress. Once I make her as comfortable as I can, I finally check her wounds. And I wished I didn't have to. My stomach turns as I look at the bruises and scars covering her body like a design. Who the hell would even think to hurt someone as fragile and delicate as her. Her whole face is bruised, with a black eye and a few places where it was starting to turn purple. Without thinking, I squeeze my fists. She groans a little and I instantly move closer to her.
"Lily. Can you hear me? Are you awake?"
She groans again and tries to move. Holding her down gently, I take a water bottle from the night stand and offer her some water.
"Here. Drink this first."
She accepts the water gratefully and I wipe the sweat on her forehead.
"It's ok now. Everything is fine." I whisper softly.
I turn to leave and suddenly I feel a warm hand overlap mine.
I glance back in surprise as Lily's hand tightly holding onto mine.
"Don't go." She whispers and squeezes my hand gently.
"I don't want to be alone." She murmurs.
Sighing, I sit on the floor next to the bed, carefully placing both of my hands into hers. She sighs softly and grows quiet.
I watch as her shoulders bounce up and down, slowly slowing down until it's a steady and consistent breathing. My eyes study her, memorizing each and ever aspect of her face. Her delicate nose. Her perfect eyebrows. And then my eyes wander onto the bruises on her lips and cheek. And my face heats up. She shifts her head on her pillow and I glance at her, my anger slowly subsiding as I squeeze my her hand. I'll protect you. I think to myself. You won't have to suffer like this again. I promise.
Lily's POV:
My eyes slowly open and I'm hit with a sudden numbness.
"Ughhhh." I moan softly trying to get up.
But my head starts to spin as I try to sit up. That's when I notice a hand holding mine. Looking at who the hand belongs to, I take in a breath. What is Jake doing here? Where am I? What exactly happened last night? How did I get here? Why is he holding my hand right now? Why is he sleeping here???I stop trying to sit up and settle back onto the pillow. Damn. His eyelashes and sleeping face was so much better than when he was awake. He's using his arms as his pillow, while holding my hand tightly. His arms move up and down in a constant motion. I slowly start to grin. Did he stay here all night? Why? Did he? Perhaps? My heart flutters at this. No way. He shifts in his sleep, and I quickly close my eyes. How awkward will it be when he wakes up to see me staring at him.
I can feel his grip on me loosen and I open my eyes a crack to see him cracking a yawn. He massages his shoulder and arm, which he has slept on the whole night and I can't help but notice how thick his arms were. Not thick with fat, but with pure muscle. Inside my mind, I grin excitedly, but then stop abruptly. Why was I grinning like a complete idiot? I mentally shake myself and without realizing it, I'm staring into the emerald eyes of Jake. Woah.
He's hunched over me, just inches away from my face holding what looks like a towel. His eyes widen in surprise and he moves back so he's sitting on the floor again.
"Didn't know you were awake." he says softly.
Burning with humiliation, I try to nod but stop when I"m suddenly hit with a wave of dizziness and burning in my head. He seems to notice me wince because he immediately comes closer and touches the side of my head.
"Where does it hurt." he asks worry clear in his voice.
"The left side of my head." I say my voice quiet.
His swift fingers move to the left side of my head and I wince again as he prods at a certain area. He quickly leaves the room and comes back a minute later an ice pack in hand. Dropping to his knees, he lifts my head slightly before placing a cold pack on the injured area. Immediately, my head is relieved and more clearer than a few seconds ago.
"Better?" He asks his face anxious.
"Yes." I say finally having the courage to speak.
