Where I Belong

I took a deep breath before going inside the cave.

"Mother..."

"I know. Don't say anything and go," she responded.

"But mother what about-"

"I know. I took you in knowing well one day you will return. I didn't want it to be so soon but I can't keep you here any longer," she said as she gave me a hug.

The tears started to fall down.

"Mother..."

"It will be hard. People will want to hurt you and break you but I taught you well. The First Queen will look out for you as best as she can. Don't trust anyone else. That is your fate as the future queen," she said.

"Future queen? That's Dahyun's position, I don't even want it."

"You don't have to want it, you need it. If she becomes queen you and your mother will be in a bad position plus, the ocean gods will not allow her to hold the throne because she's not the rightful heir," mother explained.

"But what if I don't want to leave you?" I asked.

"I'll still be here. I won't go anywhere. You can always visit me whenever you want to. Listen, this is the right path," she said.

I nodded.

"You leave first thing tomorrow. I asked Yugyeom to assist you."

"Mother...do you already know what the future will be like?" I asked.

"Of course not silly. Even I have my limits," she laughed

I slept that night worrying about the future ahead of me. What is to come? I chose Yugyeom and that meant choosing to fight for my right on the throne as well.

The next morning:

"Nervous?" Yugyeom asked.

"Yes, can you tell?"

He smiled and patted my head.

"You'll be okay. I know it," he said.

"Do you think the king will approve of me?" I asked.

"He is your father. He'll love you regardless," he said as he held my hand.

I smiled at him for being such a sweetheart. We arrived at the palace doors which were opened when they saw Yugyeom.

"My dear! You came!" said the First Queen as she hugged me.

I smiled and nodded.

"Oh you came too. Thanks for assisting Y/N here," she said with a warm smile.

"It was my pleasure," he replied.

"Let's go. Your father is waiting inside," she said as she took my hand.

The doors opened and we swam inside.

"My dear, this is absurd! How can a common girl be the missing princess?" asked the Second Queen angrily.

The King looked to his second wife and then back at me. The first queen sat down next to him as they all looked at me who was before them. Dahyun was standing besides her mother, staring me up and down.

It's okay Y/N. Yugyeom is here besides you. You'll be okay, I thought.

I bowed my head.

"Hello your highness," I said.

"Lift your head up dear. Meet my eyes," said the King.

I did as told. He smiled and got out of his seat. He swam up to me and took my hand.

"You are my daughter. No one can bestow such a gift besides me and the stars in your eyes have shown me the truth. It's no doubt you are our beautiful daughter," he said as he hugged me warmly.

It was odd that just yesterday these people were strangers to me but these hugs were all so kind and heart warming.

"And you must be Prince Yugyeom. The queen told me about your meeting," he said, looking at Yugyeom.

"Yes it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance," he said as he bowed.

"Dahyun, why don't you greet your sister?" said the Second Queen.

I looked at Dahyun who was looking at me. She didn't share the same look her mother had. In fact, she looked quite innocent. She smiled and happily swam over.

"You're my missing sister! Now I won't be all alone in the palace!" she exclaimed as she hugged me.

"I'm Y/N. It's good to have a sister too," I said with a smile.

"Starting tomorrow your training as a princess will begin. You'll be with me so it'll be fun, I promise!" she said.

"I'll show you your room now. Is that okay father?" she asked.

The King smiled and nodded.

"Is it okay if Yugyeom comes along?" I asked.

"Why of course. Just make sure you both come in time for dinner," said the First Queen.

We excused ourselves and left.

Second Queen's P.O.V.

She's back! Now we have even more trouble. My daughter should still be on the throne and how dare Y/N come back with a prince?! How did she even meet him? This is looking worse and worse each time. My dumb daughter doesn't even understand what this means for her.

"If I may say so, it's indeed a horrible thing that she was missing for so long but she's seen and experienced the ways of our people. She would make a great queen some day," said one of the King's man.

"Don't be too quick to jump to conclusions!" I shouted.

"Your highness, the oceans will only be at peace if the rightful heir is on the throne," the counsel said.

I glared at him.

"We will speak about this another day," the King said.

I was furious. Y/N needs to disappear for good this time.

Y/N's P.O.V

"So this is your room! I hope you like it. I helped decorate it myself," she said with a bright smile.

"Thank you so much. I love it," I said.

It was a lot more spacious than I was used to and a lot more luxurious.

"So how did you two meet?" Dahyun asked, admiring Yugyeom.

"He saved me when I was young. Ever since then, we were close," I answered.

"Ahh I see. So you really are prince charming then. Ahh! I forgot! I have to get changed for dinner. I had a beautiful outfit picked out. The ladies outside can bring you to dinner. See you then!"

She waved goodbye and left in a hurry.

"Wow I can't imagine the princess would act that way from what the people have been saying," said Yugyeom.

"How so?"

"Everyone said she was...different."

"Don't bad mouth my little sister now," I said teasingly.

He hugged me from behind and laid his chin on my shoulder. I could feel his warmth. His heartbeat was like music to my hears as well. He kissed my shoulder which startled me. My face flushed and my heart raced but I was completely happy. This is my new home and my new life. In Yugyeom's arms was the best feeling. This is where I belong, in the vast blue ocean with the person I love. No matter what comes next, I know I'll be okay.
