Dahyun's P.O.V
It's been two days and all I've been doing is hiding inside my mother's room. I ruffled my hair in frustration.
"Aish!"
"What's wrong my lady?" asked my mother's maid Juju.
"How much longer do I have to sit around and wait? I can't even leave this stuffy room!"
"Your mother told us not to let you out," she added.
I rolled my eyes.
"Juju. Gather my things from my room. I need my hair and make up and while you're at it, bring me my favorite pink pearls," I said.
"W-what? But princess!"
"Hurry!"
"Your mother told me not to leave you alone," she added.
"Are you disobeying me?"
She hesitated but then left the room. I waited for a bit and then swam up to the windows and looked around. No one was in sight. I had my bag in my hands and took a deep breath.
"Let's go," I whispered to myself and swam out as quickly as I could.
I smiled brightly and made my way past the corals and out of the palace. If I'm going to be the queen, I might as well work for it. I swam far out into the open.
"Let's see. Maybe I should find the missing crown first...or maybe I should get the gem of ice," I said to myself. "Ugh what am I doing? Why did I even come out alone?"
I looked behind me. The town and kingdoms were far but if I head back now, I could still make it home before it's too late. I closed my eyes and thought about it. I nodded my head and turned back. I bumped into something hard and opened my eyes. Sharks! Three of them!
"Hey there. What's a pretty mermaid like you doing so far away from the safety of your home?" said the middle one.
"I-I was just about to head back," I said as I swam around them.
They quickly swam in front of me again, stopping me in my tracks.
"Leave me alone!" I shouted.
"Why don't I just take a bite out of her tail first. I am getting quite hungry," said the smaller shark.
"Don't even think about it!" I snapped.
"She doesn't sound like a prey. She's feisty sir," added the third shark.
They swam closer and closer to me, forcing me to back away. I tried to pretend that I wasn't afraid but I really was. I regret leaving home now.
"What are you doing?" came a loud voice from behind them.
They all turned to face the voice.
"Prince Jae Bum!" I shouted.
"Why if it isn't prince charming coming to rescue the girl," said the middle shark.
"Leave the girl and go," he said calmly.
"Why should we? Now there's two fish for us to gobble down."
"I'll give you one last chance to leave," said Jae Bum.
The sharks all smirked and glared. I took this chance to swim over them and hid behind Jae Bum. The three of them started to swim towards us with hunger in their eyes. Jae Bum sighed and lifted his hand. As he did so, the sharks were flown backwards.
"What the!"
They freaked out but did not give up. They swam at us again. Jae Bum raised his hand again and this time created a big bubble. He threw the bubble at the sharks who were all caught. It was like a small dungeon that kept them from being able to move anywhere.
"Let us go you merman!" shouted the small shark.
"You will be able to leave the bubble in 3 days. Think about what you have done," Jae Bum said calmly. "Let's go."
I followed him away from the sharks. When we were far enough he stopped.
"Why were you out here?" he asked.
"Um I needed to find some things..."
"What would you have done if I didn't happen to pass by? You need to be careful."
He seemed upset with me. I looked down. Then a hand laid on my head as I looked up and saw him smile.
"It's okay. All that matters is you were safe," he said kindly.
"Um do you...by chance remember me?" I asked, hopeful.
"Mmm should I?" he said as he looked up.
My shoulders feel down as I was disappointed.
"I'm just kidding. How have you been Dahyun?" he asked with a smile.
My eyes lit up and I smiled happily.
"You do remember! I-I've been good! You?"
He chuckled.
"I've been good too. So why were you out here?" he asked.
"My father wants me on a quest to prove that I am the rightful heir."
I didn't want to mention Y/N just yet.
"Alone?" he added.
"Um no. It's just that my mother was against it so I snuck out alone."
"Waah with that determination, you'd make a great queen someday," he said.
I blushed.
"Then shall I be your partner? If that's okay with the King," he said.
"Yes! It would be amazing!"
He ruffled my hair and smiled. I no longer regret leaving the palace now that I'm here with Jae Bum.
