"Jimin I want to be with you. My heart yearns to be with you but I can't leave without saying goodbye. Will you...wait for me?" I asked.

"I'll wait forever," he said with a smile.

I dived back down into the ocean.

"Y/N!"

"Yugyeom!"

"Your mother is worried," he said.

"Which one huh?" I asked.

"Both of them. They're at your house waiting for you," he said.

"Perfect. Let's go," I said as I swam off.

"Wait," he said as he grabbed my arm. "I overheard...are you really going to become human?"

I nodded slowly.

"I...I lov-"

"Wait. Before you say anything I want to let you know first. Y/N I've always loved you ever since we were kids. I wanted to protect you forever but knowing you, this won't change your mind. I wanted to at least tell you my feelings before you tell me you love him because I...already know," he said with a pained expression.

"I'm so sorry Yugyeom really."

He forced a smile on his face.

"It's okay. Let's go."

I followed him, watching his back for one last time.

"I know you can hear me. Gyeomie...Thank you for everything you have done for me," I said with my mind.

He never turned back to look at me.

"You're welcome."

We arrived home where I saw both of my mothers sitting together at the table.

"Oh Y/N you're back!" said the Queen.

"I only came back to say goodbye," I said without making eye contact to anyone.

"What?" she asked.

"I want to become human mother. Can you make me one?" I asked.

The queen stared back at her.

"I can but I won't," said mother.

"Why not?" I asked, worryingly.

"One, you are a princess of our kingdom so you can not go breaking the laws. Two, you are a mermaid who can not live above with humans and three, it is far too dangerous," she said.

"But mother!"

"No buts," said the Queen. "The human world is no place for you."

"The palace is no place for me either!" I shouted.

"Y/N!" shouted mother.

"...I'm sorry your highness," I said with a deep bow.

"No it's ok my child. The world up there is not what you think it is. Why would you go?" the Queen asked kindly.

I looked into her eyes.

"I won't lie. I'm in love with a human and I want to be with him," I said strongly.

"What?"

She fell back onto the chair as mother got up and swam to me.

"Y/N I did not raise you to fall in love with a mere human!"

"Like I have two mothers, I may have two lives as well! I'm not asking for permission. I'm here to say goodbye whether you help me or not! I will not let you all just drag me around and control my life!" I shouted in anger.

Just then I felt a sharp pain on my cheeks.

"Y/N!" shouted Yugyeom.

"I will not watch you throw your life away for a human boy! I will not do to you what my mother did! I will not let you destroy yourself!" she screamed.

That's when I knew, every time I had begged her to tell me about her past, it broke her heart each time.

"I-I'm sorry...I love you mother but...I can't let him go. I've tried," I said softly in tears.

"Jieun it's ok," said the Queen as she swam by my side. "If that is what you wish for then I'll help you. But you must know that this is a permanent thing. You will not be able to come back to this world anymore. You will fully lose your mermaid self."

I nodded. She wiped my tears and held Jieun, my mother's hands.

"It's okay. As long as I know my daughter is alive and happily doing what she wants then everything will be ok," she said.

This was the first time I heard my mother's name. She swam to the corner of the cave and pulled out a hidden potion behind a rock.

"Here. Drink this when you get to the surface. We will miss you dearly but if this is your choice then go ahead," she said in a sad tone.

"Thank you so much mother and you too," I said as I held both their hands. "I promise I'll live a happy and good life."

They both smiled and watched me go. I could hear the Queen speak to me.

"Be safe." 

Yugyeom sent me off.

"This is goodbye," he said.

"Yes it is. Though my love is not the same as yours, I really do love you Gyeomie," I said as I hugged him.

"Whenever you need me. If you ever do, I'll be here."

I smiled and went above. I drank the potion and felt a strange tingling feeling. My tail started turning into feet. I could feel my toes appearing.

"Y/N!"

"Jimin!"

I ran to him and welcomed his embrace. Whatever happens now, at least I'm with the man I love.
