Forte's waves woke me up. I'm a light sleeper who can't sleep through rough noises. I opened my eyes and found myself in Yugyeom's arms. I blushed and poked his shoulder to wake him up. He slowly opened his eyes.
"Oh I'm sorry!" he said, letting go of me.
I started to float up.
"I was holding you down to keep you from floating away," he said, embarrassed.
"Being human is a lot harder than I thought," I said giggling.
Forte came to me so I could hold onto him. Thank goodness I had tied my dress down so it wouldn't float up. We swam back to the beach to meet up with Jimin.
"Be careful. Make sure he's alone and if he lied, I'll come for you," Yugyeom said.
I nodded. Yugyeom couldn't be caught either or it would be the both of us swimming around with legs.
My head plopped above the water. Jimin was standing there alone. I swam up to him.
"Good morning," he said.
"Good morning. So did you figure it out?" I asked.
"Well I made a list. Maybe if I told you all of them, one of them is bound to work," he said.
"Don't you want money?" I asked.
"I'm in a position where money is not a problem," he said.
"Okay well wish away," I said.
"I wish for you to be able to get your tail back," he said.
Nothing happened.
"Okay well I wish for the fastest horse on earth."
Nothing.
"Wish for a puppy?"
"You didn't really think about it did you?" I asked as I crossed my arms.
"I did. I just. I have everything already," he said.
"How does one person have everything unless he's the king," I said.
"You're wrong. The king doesn't always have everything. He lives a hard life," Jimin said.
He looked hurt and bothered by what I had said.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean anything bad by it," I said.
"It's okay. What happens if none of my wishes work?" he asked.
I looked down at my feet.
"I'll have to say goodbye to my home, my friends, my family," I said quietly.
"I don't get it. If I said I wouldn't tell anyone about you, shouldn't your tail just come back?"
"That's not how the magic of the sea works. You can always accidentally tell others about me and the existence of merpeople. There's no proof we do exist except for in stories. The wish seals the deal and no matter how much you want to tell others, you won't be able to," I explained.
"Ah I see now. Well then, maybe you'll just have to stick around me until I figure out my heart's deepest desire," he said, smiling.
"Don't smile. This isn't a good thing," I said.
