Today was the big day! We were going to be in the parade, sitting in front of the King and Queens themselves. Yugyeom and I were sitting on the float, waiting. As the music started to play, the float started to move. Forte, along with his friends, were kind enough to help pull the float forward for us. The old man did say he had a float for us but he never said he had helpers. As every float slowly moved ahead, the trumpets got louder.
"This is it Gyeom! They're here!" I exclaimed.
We all turned behind us, looking at the huge float that came behind us. The King and his two Queens were waving to their people.
"Wow. They're beautiful," I said softly.
"Yeah, the life of luxury usually is seen as beautiful isn't it?" said Yugyeom quietly.
"Yugyeom-ah, isn't she lovely?" I asked, looking at the First Queen.
He looked at me and nodded.
"Your eyes, Y/N...are you crying?" he asked, worried.
He came to my side and gently stroke my cheeks.
"Mermaids don't cry Yugyeom. You know that," I replied.
"But the stars in your eyes..."
Somehow seeing her made me feel sad. I had cried before as a human being but never as a mermaid. We feel sad but we never express that pain with tears.
"Hey, isn't that the princess? She's finally revealed herself to her people!" shouted Luca.
I switched my gaze from the First Queen to the princess. She's as beautiful as they say. With such a lovely smile and such elegance. She swam up to the Second Queen's side and waved.
"Rumor says, the First Queen had a daughter who was born just before the princess but she mysteriously disappeared. They've searched high and low for her but she was no where to be found," whispered the narwhal.
"How do you know this?" I asked.
"It's a tale told by sea creatures. Though we treasure the princess, if she's not the rightful heir then the ocean would be in chaos," he said.
"I see."
I looked at the four members, floating up high, above everyone.
"Maybe being right in front of them wasn't such a good idea. We're still below their eye vision that they would never notice us. The princess will never notice me," said Luca.
"You're still a child Luca. Don't you think the princess is a little too high for your reach?" sang the starfish.
"Hey I can dream!" he shouted.
"Yes you can. One day you'll meet a wonderful princess who will take the time to dance and sing with you, even if it's not this princess," I said.
"Then you can be my princess for now and dance with me," Luca said brightly.
"Hey! Little 7 year old boy, she's mine," Yugyeom said, stepping in front of him.
I laughed at their silly argument.
"Yugyeom you act younger than Luca. Move aside," I said teasingly.
I took Luca's hand as we both twirled around, over our float, to the beat of the music playing.
"Y/N! Your eyes are sparkling!" Luca exclaimed.
"It does that whenever I'm close to the palace. Don't mind it," I said.
First Queen's P.O.V.
I don't want to assume but the Second Queen is acting a lot haughtier more than usual. It's probably because her daughter finally agreed to come with her to the parade. Oh how I miss my Y/N. I lowered my head for one second and slowly lifted it up. My gaze feel upon a girl, about the same age as princess Dahyun. She was happily dancing with a little merboy. If my Y/N had been with me, she'd be around the same age. I almost looked away but her sparkling eyes caught my attention.
"My king! That little girl! Her eyes!" I said as I grabbed onto his arm.
The second queen threw a fierce glare at me.
"Don't you think it's a little too much for you to be grabbing him in such a manner in front of the people?!" she hissed.
The King and I looked down to the little girl.
"Stars?" he questioned.
"It's a trick of the light!" screamed the Second Queen.
"Mother calm down," said Dahyun, the princess.
"The people are looking, be professional," the Second Queen stated as she pulled the King away from me.
I couldn't take my eyes off of her. That girl, could she really be?
Y/N's P.O.V
"May I?" asked Yugyeom.
Luca stepped aside and I took his hand. We both danced to the music as the starfish sang and the narwhal swam in circles.
"Y/N!"
I was startled and stopped dancing.
"You shouldn't be here! Let's go!" shouted my mother as she grabbed my hand.
"What's wrong?" asked Yugyeom.
"If you care for her, you'll tell her to come home this instant," my mother said sternly.
Yugyeom, confused, did as he was told.
"You can all enjoy the rest of the parade, seems like we have to leave early," he said.
"Just Y/N. I need to talk to her alone. Please," my mother said.
Yugyeom nodded like he understood her reason.
"But mother I-"
Mother pulled me away from the parade and into the crowd.
First Queen's P.O.V
A young lady came out from the crowd and grabbed the girl. They seemed to be quarreling about something then she pulled her away.
"My king, please excuse me," I said as I swam down to follow them.
He grabbed my hand and smiled to the crowd.
"You mustn't act rashly my dear. The people will begin to wonder," he said.
I knew he was right but as a mother, I knew that girl had to be my daughter. I won't let her go without confirming it first. I pulled lightly but his grip was strong.
I'll come back tomorrow in disguise, she will surely come again, I thought.
Y/N's P.O.V.
"Mother what's wrong?" I asked, worried.
"You are not to go near the palace ever again! It's not safe for you there," she said.
"But mother, no one will say anything. They all know me well by now," I said.
"It's not the people I worry about. It's the Queen," she said softly.
"The Queen? She looked so kind," I said.
"The one with the princess. The Second Queen is not to be meddled with. Stay away," she said fiercely.
"Mother..."
"You may attend the last day of the carnival but stay as far as you can from the palace. Today's the only day they come out so you'll be okay. Promise me. You won't go near any of them," she said calmly.
"I promise."
I didn't know her reason behind it but I knew that she always looked out for me. I had no reason to doubt her. It must've had something to do with when she was still in the palace. The Second Queen may have been the one who caused her so much pain.
"You're growing too fast my dear," she said.
She held me in her arms and stroke my long black hair.
