Y/N's P.O.V
We were swimming out to the place where the sea turtles lived. We had asked around for the Blind Sea Turtle and turns out, it wasn't that hard to find him at all. I motioned for Yugyeom to look at the sea turtle who was laying on top of a rock.
"I know you're here for me. Come over," he said in a low tone, much like that of the old man from the village.
"Hello there I am-"
"Princess Y/N and you by her side I assume must be Prince Yugyeom," he said.
"Uh yes sir."
"Your father the King sent you here. That man does not take no for an answer," he said.
"My father sent me here to fulfill your requests. I-"
"I'll have to stop you right there. I already told your father I'm not leaving here," the old blind turtle said.
"Pardon me but I do not wish for you to have to leave the place you call home," I said.
"Are you sure? The King has not sent you here to ask me to come to the palace again?"
"No sir. He has not."
"Hmmm a request huh," he said.
I nodded and listened intently. He turned to face us again.
"Aren't you curious as to why I left the palace princess?" he asked.
"Well I can't say I'm not curious but we all have our own stories to be told," I replied.
He took a deep breath and sighed, "Then listen to my story."
Yugyeom and I looked at each other and sat down on the rock near him.
"I was once the seer for your father. I saw everything that would happen and that's how I prevented bad things from happening to the merfolks. My wife was beautiful and she loved me very much but I was so blinded by the good I was doing for others that I overlooked her loneliness. She never spoke a word about her pain and sorrow. She would always smile at me and support me through anything. One day she came to me and requested that I go with her to visit her parents but as I was under the King I had chosen not to leave. My last words to her were: It's not important for me to be there with you. I won't leave when I have so many people to look after. I could see the sadness in her eyes but I still chose to overlook it. She decided not to go without me and so she never got to visit her parents. Her beauty had wasted away as she only stayed by my side. At a certain point I completely forgot about her. One night I saw in my dreams, a vision about her. She smiled at me kindly like the first day we met but as I reached out for her hand, I couldn't hold onto her. My hand slid past her hand as if she was transparent. I woke up without her by my side and that's when I knew, she was no longer in this world. She had left my side and somewhere along the way the Gods took her lonely soul away from the darkness I put her in. I gave up my position and job. I gave up my gift in order to repent for what I had done to the only one who loved me more than herself. Those stars my dear, are the essence of vision. You have been given the gift I left with the king and there is no doubt that you are his heir. The only request I have for you is, to find what is in your heart before it's too late. Don't wit until tomorrow what can be done and said today. A throne may be gold but that throne will be cold without someone to share it with," he said.
I knew what he was saying to me. I bit my bottom lip as I looked at the side of Yugyeom's face.
"Do you understand what I'm trying to say my dear?" he asked.
"Yes I do."
"Then your business with me is done. Ah one more thing, take your time to get back to the palace. You will want time. It's something we will never get back," he added.
"Thank you. We will."
"Good day to you sir," Yugyeom said as we bowed and swam off.
I kept pondering if I should tell Yugyeom about the engagement but at the same time I kept wondering if I even wanted the throne. I only felt the need to secure it so my mom wouldn't be pushed off by my stepmother. As much as I loved Dahyun, her mother was not the same as her.
"Are you okay?" Yugyeom asked me as he brushed my hair behind my ears.
"Yeah...Yugyeom...what would you do if I became queen?"
"I'd still ask for your hand in marriage," he answered with a smile.
"What if being queen means I can't be your queen?" I asked.
He tilted his head slightly and pouted.
"That doesn't make sense. I'll still make you my queen either way," he answered without hesitation. "Isn't that what you want too?"
I smiled and nodded when in fact I knew the truth. I was putting others before me. I can't be happy with Yugyeom if that means my mom will be in the mercy of Dahyun's mom and knowing her, so will all the merfolks.
"Yugyeom...I'm sorry," I said as I looked up at him.
"Why?" he asked confused like a baby would.
"Just know I love you okay?"
"Of course!" he said as he stole a quick peck.
"Yah!"
He giggled and teased me while I just smiled. The blind sea turtle wanted me to choose love but I couldn't. I...just couldn't even if my heart will hurt. Yugyeom may be hurt too but I can't place us over everyone else. Can I?
