Dean took a long look at Evelyn as she watched the flag burn, clutching the iron rod close to her chest. The flames reflected on her face, and from what Dean could tell, she seemed a little shaky. Sam stayed close to her for a moment, and Dean could see why-she was gripping the stirring stick so tight her knuckles had turned pearly white.
Lights suddenly flashed on by the church, an engine starting a fraction of a second later. A truck went speeding off the property, Evelyn watching it, standing up and running a few feet to try and get them to stop as she yelled and waved her arms.
"Who was that?" Dean asked, watching as Evelyn turned around and sulked back to him and Sam.
"My ride." Evelyn sighed, her entire demeanor changing from frazzled to sad.
"We'll give you a ride, Evelyn." Sam said, looking down at her.
"Yeah." Dean said. "No problem, kid. Besides, we'll get to see some more hunters." Evelyn looked at Dean and cocked an eyebrow.
"What?" Evelyn asked softly, confusion laced in her voice.
Dean looked at Evelyn, the dying flames making it even harder to see. "You're a hunters kid, right? You're wearing an anti-possession charm on your necklace." Dean pulled down the corner of his shirt so his tattoo was exposed. "Sammy and I have them too." Evelyn looked at Dean with her eyes wide and her eyebrows scrunched together as he let go of his shirt collar, allowing it to go back in his place.
"M-my uncle gave me this when I was eight." Evelyn stuttered, her eyes shifting from the ground to Dean. "W-what-what's a hunter?" Evelyn asked softly, her eyebrows going back to their normal placing as her face relaxed. Dean could tell from the dying flames that her eyes were still spotted with horror and confusion.
"Um." Sam said, breaking the awkward tension between the three of them. "We can tell you on the ride home. Come on." Sam gently took the rod out of Evelyn's hand and tossed it on the ground. He rested a hand on Evelyn's shoulder, guiding her to the Impala with Dean following behind. Sam opened the back door for her and she reluctantly slid in, Sam closing the door behind her. Dean opened the door to the driver's side while Sam opened the one to the passengers and they both slid in and shut their doors at the same time.
"You're not really FBI agents, are you?" Evelyn asked, looking at Dean from the backseat through the rearview mirror. Dean's sharp expression softened the slightest as he buckled his seat belt and allowed his gaze to leave Evelyn's eyes.
"Uh, no." Dean said softly, stealing a glance at Sam. "We're not." Dean started the engine and Evelyn gripped the hem of her hoodie softly as she continued to speak.
"You're... hunters?" Evelyn asked reluctantly. "That's what you said, right?"
"Yeah." Sam replied, speaking over the sound of Dean starting the ignition.
"And what is that?" Evelyn inquired, her hands subtly flying out to the leather seats as she tried to refrain from sliding as Dean turned the Impala around.
"Think of it like this," Dean started, his eyes finding Evelyn's in the rearview mirror, "everything you've ever thought that was under your bed is real." Dean held in a laugh as Evelyn's eyes went wide in the backseat.
"So, ghosts, right? Considering what I just saw..." Evelyn said, watching as Dean flipped on the bright lights of the Impala as he started driving back to El Reno.
"Yep." Sam said. "And vampires, werewolves, ghouls, witches, demons, angels..."
"Angels?" Evelyn asked, her hands leaving the seat as she stuck them in her hoodie pocket with a strange feeling of uneasiness. "Like from Heaven?"
"Yeah." Dean said, his hand lazily setting against the window while one hung on the steering wheel.
"And demons, like, from Hell?" Evelyn asked, her face starting to tint pink. She hated pestering this two-especially the one whose name she didn't know but she wanted answers.
"Yep." Dean said, cutting off Sam before his little brother let a word slip out. In truth, Dean was slightly angry since this kid, who he guessed was Sam's new friend, had followed them. Now they had to make a detour to take her home.
"So, if you're not FBI agents, what are your real names?" Evelyn asked, catching Dean's eyes again in the rearview mirror. His gaze was hard, and Evelyn turned her eyes to her shoes.
"My name really is Sam." Sam started. "His is Dean. We're brothers."
"What's your last name?" Evelyn asked, deciding that would be her last question for this car ride. She could feel herself start shaking and she was trying to fight against it.
Sam let out a reluctant, quiet sigh and he and Dean looked at each other. "Winchester." Sam said, adjusting himself in the seat. Evelyn fought the instincts that were telling her to tense up; to be afraid. She was scared at this point; she was sitting in a car with two of the FBI's Most Wanted-well, former most wanted; the news claimed they died.
"You were the guys that killed people all over the news." Evelyn whispered, and Sam turned around to look at her as Dean turned the corner that led back into town.
"No, no that wasn't us!" Sam denied, his eyes wide and his face hard. "Those were monsters pretending to be us. That wasn't us at all."
Evelyn let out a tiny sigh of relief. "Do you guys always do stuff like that? I mean, like the burning stuff."
Dean chuckled softly. "A lot of the time, yeah." Dean admitted. "So tell me, kid, where do I turn at?"

"Let us walk you to the door." Sam said as Dean pulled up in the driveway of Evelyn's house. "It'll look better if we show our FBI badges."
Evelyn slid to the side of the backseat and opened the door, Sam and Dean sliding out after her. Evelyn shut the door and took a look at the house, seeing the light in the living room was on. A few lights outside were, vaguely lighting the small pathway to the front door. She started walking to the front door, hearing Sam and Dean following behind her. She stepped onto the porch and rang the doorbell, feeling Sam and Dean look at her with confusion.
"I don't have a key." Evelyn said, matter-of-factly, looking at Sam and Dean and shrugging her shoulders. She turned back around to the front door, hearing the lock click and the handle turn. Lottie's worried face appeared in the door as it swung open, her eyes softening as they landed on Evelyn.
"Oh my God, Evie." Lottie said, wrapping her arms tightly around Evelyn's shoulders and pulling her daughter close to her in a hug. Lottie buried her face in Evelyn's hair, relishing in the moment.
"I was worried sick about you, sweetheart." Lottie said softly, letting go of Evelyn staring at her daughter. "Where did you go?"
"Ma'am," Dean started, grabbing his FBI badge out of his jacket pocket and getting out and flashing it to Lottie, "I'm Agent Nugent and this is my partner Agent Hamil. We were investigating at Fort Reno and-"
"Dean?" Lottie asked, her eyes catching Dean's. Sam and Evelyn shared a look of surprise with each other and they stepped out of the way while Lottie took a step closer to Dean.
"Lottie?" Dean asked, his surprised tone matching Lottie's. Evelyn's mother's gaze hardened and she stared at Dean as he casually folded his badge back up and stuffed it in his pocket. Lottie suddenly raised her hand and slapped Dean, his head turning to the side from the force of her hand.
"Mom!" Evelyn yelled, stepping toward her mother and forcing Lottie to take a step back. There were anger and confusion burning in Lottie's eyes, but her demeanor and facial expression reeked of sadness.
"Come on in, asshole." Lottie chuckled, moving Evelyn out of the way and taking a step towards Dean and hugging him. Sam and Evelyn looked at each other and cocked an eyebrow as Dean awkwardly wrapped his arms around Lottie.
Lottie let go and spun on her heel, walking inside the house with Dean following. Sam and Evelyn stood on the porch, still sharing a look of confusion.
"Is it just me," Evelyn started, looking at the entryway and back to Sam, "or are you confused too?"
