The bunker door opening was one of the scariest sounds Evelyn had ever heard in her life.
She had been hiding under the bed for what felt like an eternity. She didn't dare move out of fear that Toni and her friend would come back and do worse to her than they did to Sam. In the time she had spent hiding, Evelyn came to the conclusion he wasn't dead; Toni obviously wanted information from Sam and she wouldn't get it if he bled to death on the bunker floor. Evelyn had been taking slow, deep, quiet breaths from her spot under the bed, holding her gun off the safety and towards the door so she could shoot anyone or anything that came near her and her hiding spot. Her back was starting to ache from laying on her stomach for so long, and her feet had fallen asleep long ago. She dozed off a few times, not knowing how long she slept or how long she had been under the bed.
So, as the door closed and a female voice spoke something about someone living in the bunker, Evelyn's heart rate sped up, gripping her pistol tightly in both hands, finger hovering over the trigger. A male voice spoke next, and it was too quiet to tell if there was an accent or not, but Evelyn stared straight at the door. Footsteps were sounding down the stairs as the voices said something about clothes, then came to an abrupt stop-Evelyn assumed they had seen the blood from Sam on the floor.
Evelyn decided it was officially now or never, and she quietly rolled out from under the bed, ignoring the sharp pain in her neck as she stood up and held her gun in position in case anyone had heard her. A gun cocked and Evelyn felt her whole body flood with fear, moving to stand with her back against the wall with the open door concealing her from the view of the hallway. She held her pistol against her shoulder, taking a deep breath as the footsteps went further into the bunker, presumably closer to the library.
"Sammy? Cas? Kid?" the male voice gruffly called, and Evelyn's heart jumped into her throat. It sounded exactly like Dean; no one else called their names in the same gruff way that he did. But Dean was dead. This had to be some sort of trick. Evelyn decided to stay put for a moment, pressing her back closer to the wall. She pointed her gun downwards and double checked that the safety was clicked off.
Footsteps came closer now, and Evelyn felt a burning in her stomach at the sound of them. They were definitely Dean's boots.
"Sammy?" the voice called again, walking past the room where Evelyn was and stopping a few yards in front of it. Evelyn took a deep breath and stepped out of the room, aiming her gun up at the back of Dean Winchester's head.
"Dad?" Evelyn asked softly, her breathing shaky as Dean turned around and stared at her. This had to be some kind of trick. Dean had died only hours ago.
"Ev!" Dean exclaimed, his face a mix of relief and happiness. Evelyn ran towards Dean-both of them still holding their guns-colliding into him and wrapping her arms tightly around his waist. Dean squeezed his arms around Evelyn's middle, holding her incredibly close to him as he buried his face in her hair. Dean would never get over how much of a relief it was to see Evelyn safe.
"I thought you were dead." Evelyn sniffled into Dean's chest. Dean released her, grabbing her face in his hand that wasn't holding his gun and looking at her. She knew from his hug this was real. Her was truly here with her, alive and safe.
"No, no, I'm okay, kiddo, see?" Dean said softly, wiping a tear from Evelyn's cheek with his thumb and running his hand through her hair-which was down for once and not in a ponytail. "I'm okay. You're okay. Chuck and Amara made up and she let me go." Evelyn nodded and Dean pulled her back into his chest, feeling his shirt become slightly damp with her leftover tears.
"What happened, Ev? Where's Sam and Cas?" Dean asked as he gently pushed Evelyn away from him by her shoulders.
"I-I-I don't know." Evelyn stuttered, her face full of confusion and fear. She was on overdrive with all the emotions she was feeling and she couldn't think straight. "We came back here and some British lady was waiting-"
