"I mean, this is highly theoretical magic." Sam started, looking at Cas as the two sat at the table and looked at the book Sam had found. "It's never been used before, but it sounds like it could work." Evelyn walked into the library that moment,  overhearing what Sam had been saying from the hallway.

"What's never been used before?" she asked, sliding a bottle of water over to Sam as she took a drink of her own. She sat down in a chair across from Sam, looking at the book he had set out from an upside-down angle

"A spell that Sam found." Castiel said. "We think it would get me inside the ship to Dean. Do you have the ingredients?"

"Uh..." Sam said, flipping the page in the book. Castiel leaned closer in an attempt to read. Sam scanned the page and let out a sigh of disappointment. "All but one." Sam scoffed and glanced at the ceiling. "That's why it's never been used before. It requires the power of an archangel." Sam shut the book in defeat and Evelyn could practically see the gears turning in Castiel's head.

"Aren't those the guys that are dead?" Evelyn asked, watching as Sam nodded and ran a hand over his face. Castiel sighed deeply and stroked his chin once.

"We may as well try." Castiel said, watching how Sam lightly scoffed again.

"Not trying to be mean, but we don't have time to try, Castiel." Evelyn said, glancing at Cas sympathetically. "Plus, from what I can gather, you're not at full power." Sam abruptly stood up from his chair and walked out of the library, Evelyn looking sadly at him before standing up and following her uncle.

She tried to ignore the sounds of pages flipping behind her as she walked out, not wanting to know what Castiel was up to.

It had only been about half an hour later when Sam and Evelyn walked back into the library, seeing Castiel with various strange ingredients at a table with a bowl. Evelyn's eyes widened and she stayed behind Sam, suddenly very afraid of what Castiel was doing.

"Hey!" Sam said, walking over to the table where Cas was. Evelyn stood on the other side of Cas, her eyes scanning over all the ingredients that he had been cutting. "Cas, what is that?"

"It's your spell of gathering." Castiel said blankly, turning his eyes away from Sam and adding a type of tree bark to the bowl. Evelyn took a step backward as her eyes skimmed the large knife Cas was using.

"Are you crazy?" Evelyn asked softly, a heavy feeling settling in her stomach. She felt as if ice had covered her whole body from the way Castiel looked at her. There was so much hatred in his eyes.

"You're not strong enough, Cas. You could get hurt!" Sam tried to reason. Castiel let out a small sigh and added a few more herbs into the bowl.

"You find a better option?" Castiel inquired, grabbing a butcher knife and starting to chop up some kind of dried out meat. Evelyn gagged from the smell and took another step away. Castiel was frightening her at this point. All she wanted was her dad back.

"Well..." Sam started, looking at Evelyn for assistance. She stared at her uncle with fear in her eyes as she glanced down to what Castiel was still chopping. "No, but without a serious boost to your angel power, that spell won't even work!" Evelyn gulped as Castiel continued chopping. The atmosphere was tense, and it didn't seem like it would lighten anytime soon.

"My strength may surprise you." Castiel said, his eyes not leaving what he was cutting up-eerily slow, might Evelyn add. Sam stared at Cas in confusion and Evelyn stared at him in fear. Lucifer internally grinned at how he had affected the smaller one.
