"Natasha, this might be the worst idea you've ever had."

Steve was being a child.

He'd barged into Bucky's room countless times for one reason or another. But now, he could barely keep his hand steady on the knob.

"No, it's not. You love him, but you're seriously overprotective for you to not be anything, so start something, Steve."

"You know I hate it when you're-"

"Are you just going to stand there or are you going to open the door?" Bucky's face was a mere twelve inches from Steve's, and Natasha nearly burst out laughing when she heard Steve's breath hitch in his throat.

"I-I'm..um..I'm-uhh," Natasha clapped the soldier's shoulder and walked away triumphantly. "I got something to-uh-say. To you, I mean. If that's-shit."

"C'mon Stevie."

Bucky went back into the restroom to continue shaving his face, and Steve took a seat on his bed.

"Did you go back this time..?" Steve looked in the mirror where Bucky's eyes locked with his. "To the people who give you the anger bruises?"

"Do you wanna see for yourself?"

"Did you just ask for-holy shit, you gotta stop stripping in the middle of my sentences." He was beautiful. But he was broken.

Steve could see the places where his ribs had broken, and where they'd kicked him on his abdomen.

But somehow, he was still flawless.

"Steve? You okay?" Bucky dropped his shirt, knowing exactly how he was going to seduce his best friend. "You did go back."

"Mhm." James lifted Steve's chin so that their eyes met, and he brought his lips to Steve's, allowing him to pull James on top of him and back onto the bed.

"I love you, James."

Bucky continued the kiss, almost ignoring Steve's words, but deciding to respond.

"You don't, Steven Rogers. You think-you do." Steve stopped. "But you don't."

"How're you supposed to tell me how I feel?"

"I'm incapable of being loved. You can pretend all you want, but admit it, you're scared of me aren't you?"

Steve didn't answer as James traced the line of sweatpants.  "No. I'm not."

"Show me."
